Hello,

I posted months ago about my first attempt to get some help for my perimenopause symptoms where I got prescribed setraline. Following the helpful advice here I had a chat with a different GP, who discussed hrt with me and sent me off for blood tests.

Upsettinglyin the time it took to get those results DHs work relocation happened and we moved about 75 miles away.

Spoke to new GP, offered more setraline, when I said no and signposted to the NICE guidelines, he told me he wasn't doing anything until I was 45, and to go to Holland and Barrett. I've got another appointment with a different gp on Friday and would like to come out with a better outcome.

What do I need to ask for or how do I need to manage the conversation (it's on the phone - no in person appointments here unless your leg drops off). It's been 6 months since I first a

God, these GPs need educating. It's a complete disgrace.

The 'rule' is that if you have meno symptoms under 45, they do a blood test to see if it's premature menopause (in which case HRT is pretty mandatory for long term health) or b) some other illness.

All this stuff on blood tests- half the GPs doing these haven't a clue how to do them anyway! To test for fertility you need 2 tests, 2 months apart, between day 2-5 of your cycle.

Most GPs send women for a test and when it comes back (inaccurate) they say there is no proof of hormonal issues!
You couldn't make it up.

I think you just have to be strong and say that many women are in peri menopause BEFORE 45. Meno (last period) happens from 45- 55 , 51 is the average age.
So peri can happen years before that.

If they refuse, ask to be referred to a gynae for a 2nd opinion.
