Falling/clumsiness and HRT

I've gone through the menopause, and have noticed that I am becoming really clumsy, to the point where I have fallen over four times in the last few months (two of those times have resulted in trips to hospital, one being a broken elbow).

I'm wondering if anyone who has been in a similar situation has had any treatment such as HRT which has helped?

I think falling/changing ostreogen does affect your balance in that the fluids in the body change - which might be the fluids in your ears. It really does impact on everything.

But it might be other things too so def ask doctor. You might have a virus or something

I would definitely rule out anything physical with you GP first but one of the notable things that decline with age is balance, I take HRT but also do Pilates for core strength and yoga which are both fabulous for balance problems .

@notaflyingmonkey Not wanting to alarm you but no, this is not a meno thing.

Your GP ought to refer you to a neurologist for assessment.

Losing your balance can be a sign of some serious and progressive illnesses, like Parkinson's, MS and others.

Go to your GP and have a chat!

I'm already working on trying to rule out anything more sinister. Blood tests came back ok, and I have an appointment with a neurologist booked for Sept.

I had to go to minor injuries this morning following my most recent fall on Monday night, luckily I didn't break anything this time, but the nurse suggested I look into links with being post menopausal.

Ah, okay- I posted without knowing all the facts!

If you have had a minor fall(s) and broken a bone , you ought to have a FRAX score done and a bone density scan. This is normal and advised for post meno women who break a bone from standing height.

You could have osteoporosis and it won't be found otherwise until you break more bones.

I'm more clumsy too. I keep thwacking my hips and shoulders on things.
It might just be down to tiredness and stress meaning I can't judge spaces anymore though.

Just an update to say I had my appointment with my GP this morning where I ran my Dr Google theory past her. I suspect she was rolling her eyes at the other end of the phone.

She has also referred me for an ECG to see if this may be caused by a heart issue.

My blood tests all came back ok is about the only good news here at the moment.
