Can menopause give false positive pregnancy tests?

I think I'm menopausal. My periods are really irregular and I have up to a 45 day cycle. My GP has run a blood test and said that my oestrogen level is normal and has no idea why. It's 43 days since my last period and I just did a pregnancy test which came back positive. Please tell me this is another menopause symptom!

Sex twice in a longer cycle doesn't mean you can't be pregnant OP.

I know someone who became pregnant way outside of the 'usual window' around ovulation.

Sperm can live for a lot longer than is sometimes assumed (days in fact.)

Woke up and threw my guts up so guess I'm pregnant.

Hi OP, this must be a shock for you.

You havent said whether this is a happy surprise for you but you have said your DH is happy.

Please bear in mind that you have choices if this isn't something you want, but if it is something you want then many congratulations! Flowers

LynseyLoses · 22/08/2021 12:01

I fell pregnant with dc2 while "tracking to make sure I wasn't ovulating"! I think it's a good system but human error is always a possibility with 'cycling' as your main form of contraception.

I hope you get whatever outcome is right for you.

We were very happy, as humming and hawing about having another one anyway at the time.

CliffsofMohair · 22/08/2021 13:19

I hope the outcome is happy for you and you make choices you’re happy with.

Using rhythm method, when your periods are out of rhythm, as pregnancy avoidance, was likely to be not entirely accurate, and this is the result congratulations Wink

FakeFruitShoot · 22/08/2021 14:26

I hope you're ok, OP. Sounds like it's a bit of a shock.

There are some very very rare conditions which cause hcg to be present in the blood, but it's far more likely to be that you're pregnant right now.

You don't have to remain so if it's not what you want. Flowers

I hope you have some time and space to process this over the next few days. If you have older kids around, a few days of tablet time or sending them to friend's is definitely allowed while you wrap your head around things.

All the very best OP.

Aliceclara · 22/08/2021 14:38

Are you using progesterone cream or similar? This can give a false result.

Aliceclara · 22/08/2021 14:40

Just seen your age so I guess not. I think congratulations are in order!! 💐

HoobleDooble · 22/08/2021 19:20

I'm 48 and one of my old school friends thought she was going through the menopause when she missed a couple of periods ... her menopause is now called Tommy and starts school in September. 😁 Congratulations OP.

suziedoozy · 22/08/2021 19:22

I thought I was going through the menopause… she is now 2.5 😆

Lushmetender · 23/08/2021 17:38
