I've had symptoms for over a year. To the point of not wanting or able to get out of bed - but I do because I have to!

Today doctor confirmed FSH level of 49.

Put me straight onto patches.

How long before I feel better please?

Following...I'm sitting here sweating buckets. I've been hit by the peri juggernaut over the last month. Although it's been building up over the last year, I'm suddenly really feeling it. I've just had my consultation with the doctor snd am impatiently awaiting my prescription. Cannot wait!

MaMelon · 20/08/2021 10:53

A couple of months for me…and the huge hormone driven breast cysts (drained) and uterine polyps (Hysteroscopy in 10 days) arrived about 18 months later. So no more HRT for me SadSad

I hope you’re one of the lucky ones OP - it’s wonderful stuff if you can take it.

BunnyRuddington · 20/08/2021 18:12

So sorry to hear that you've had such severe adverse reactions @MaMelon. Mine weren't so extreme but still can't take it anymore Sad

MaMelon · 20/08/2021 19:02

So sorry to hear that @BunnyRuddington - it’s a pain, isn’t it? Sad You have my sympathies. It’s wonderful stuff and for the vast majority of women it’s life changing (for the good), but not for everyone unfortunately.

EarringsandLipstick · 20/08/2021 20:03

I'm two weeks on patches & the relief has been immediate, in some aspects.

Brain fog dramatically lifted, mood much more stable, sleep isn't perfect but much improved, so I'm not feeling sick w tiredness, digestive system is greatly improved.

The mood & sleep were 2 of the biggest issues, I really thought I'd crack up. The fact that there's been a shift is amazing.

Also I just feel more 'me' again. I had this horrible feeling I couldn't explain, wanting to actually step out of my skin. That's gone.

And it's a virtuous circle as now I'm feeling better, I can tackle stuff that needs doing my divorce and feel even better.

Good luck!

Earringsandlipstick
Don't want to hijack thread but what digestive issues did you have?

i am considering HRT for this reason

EarringsandLipstick · 20/08/2021 22:45

@bungabungaboo

Just felt v sluggish, struggled with constipation, feeling bloated, even when not constipated wasn't 'regular' enough.

I eat well, exercise a lot & usually exercise did the trick but just wasn't happening.

Heaps better already. Obviously other stuff like diet, water, exercise are relevant but I was doing all those & still had the issues.

bungabungaboo · 21/08/2021 10:21

Thanks earringsandlipstick
This is the issue I am suffering with at the moment
Diet, exercise, water all healthy and moderated, howver, I still have issues the same as you have described
Sorry to hear of others problems with cysts and polyps, was not aware of that 'risk'

MaMelon · 21/08/2021 10:46

My cysts and polyps were being ‘fed’ by the hormones apparently - the 2 Consultants I saw suggested that coming off the HRT might be a good idea. They didn’t insist or try and scare me, just explained what was happening and left it up to me. I was so disappointed, I’d had a really good GP who explained the risks v benefits really well, and hearing how fab HRT was (and it was for the time I was on it) I decided to go for it.

I certainly don’t want to put anyone off HRT - but just be aware that it’s for everyone.

bungabungaboo · 21/08/2021 11:02

mamelon thanks for explaining further

How are you coping off HRT?

I got polyps as well but the consultants I saw were happy for me to try a mirena coil instead of Utrogestan for progesterone and it has done the trick. They understood why I wanted to stay on HRT.
MaMelon · 21/08/2021 11:12

I would definitely rather be on it. All the usual symptoms have returned, it’s a bit (for bit read totally) rubbish. The worry of the upcoming hysterosccopy and what they might find isn’t helping either. When my GP talked about the increased risk of cancer etc I weighed it up and decided the numbers were so small I would take it - the benefits outweighed the risks. Now that I’m potentially one of those in the risk categories it doesn’t seem quite so minimal. If I hadn’t reacted the way I had then of course I’d feel very different.

OP - I don’t want to derail, my sincere apologies. I honestly hope it works for you, it really is brilliant stuff Smile

bungabungaboo · 21/08/2021 13:50

Thanks mamelon

Good luck with your hysteroscopy 🍀

It sounds like you weighed up all the risks Thanks

MaMelon · 21/08/2021 16:40

Thank you so muchSmile

BlueGlasses · 21/08/2021 18:41

I'm into my second month of HRT and I'm already noticing a difference. Sleeping better, more energy, less brain fog, no hot flushes or night sweats. I have the Mirena coil (replaced last month) and I rub one pump of oestrogen gel into each upper arm daily. I'm 51 and thought I didn't really have bad symptoms until I look back and realise I did have quite a lot!

LadyGAgain · 22/08/2021 13:05

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I'm really sorry that it's lead to some increased complications for some. Really useful for you to have shared it and I really hope your hysteroscopy goes well.

Thanks Smile If you do decide to go for it then I really hope it works for you. Just keep up your smears and do your self exams, and make sure you have regular follow ups Smile

pinkrabbits39 · 22/08/2021 19:38

What does FSH stand for on a blood test? I’ve had one done and I’m trying to find the relative record on mine 🤦🏻‍♀️

LadyGAgain · 22/08/2021 23:37

Follicle stimulating hormone levels.
According to some picture I was sent,
Normal 3-9
Peri menopausal is 10-23
Post menopausal is 24-146
