No bleed on Utrogestan

Hi all,

I am in my third/forth month of taking low dose HRT

1 pump daily oestrogen gel

200mg Utrogestran day 15- 26 of cycle.

For the first few months I received my normal periods on day 20/21 of my cycle. This month I have not bled at all and I am now 2 weeks over. My periods have always been 28 days and I was still regular before HRT.

If I had had my period, I should start taking the Utrogestan now and I’m not sure what to do?

Thanks all x

I was told to just take my utrogeston regardless of my cycle, as long as I bleed every month that’s all my meno spec was concerned with

Yes but I haven’t bled.

@Rabof151 I'm a bit confused here.

If you bled on day 21 of a cycle before, that's not every 28 days.

If you were using Utrogestan for 12 days up to day 26 of a cycle, but bleeding on day 21, that wasn't the utrogestan causing the bleed, it was your own natural cycle (because the bleed with Utrogestan happens roughly 3 days after the last tablet.)

On HRT, you are supposed to ignore your own cycle and carry on with HRT cycle regardless.

In time, the HRt cycle with overtake your own cycle and you will only usually bleed around 3 days after the last Utrogestan tablet.

Also, as you are on such a low dose of gel, it's quite likely there is no lining to come away as a bleed.

If you aren't familiar with how the two products work (estrogen building the lining, progesterone controlling it) there is info online (website of Dr Louise Newson has some good fact sheets and I'm sure there is one on Utrogestan.)

Now, you just carry on with the Utrogestan as before, taking it on a set day each month. For example, the 1st of the month or the 15th. You aren't supposed to take it to fit in with your natural cycle as this will change over time.
