I'm 49 been having irregular periods for a few years. Had no period since February. My legs and ankles are causing me so much pain. I find it difficult to walk especially in the mornings and evenings. I just feel like i can't cope with this.

Is there any reason you think the leg/ankle pain is menopause related?

GoldenBlue · 12/08/2021 18:47

Have you spoken to your gp about hrt?

Yes muscle and joint pain is a known menopause symptom but that's not the only potential cause so best getting it checked

@Whywhywhy48 I have this exact same issue and after 3 years of physio, podiatrists, x rays, blood tests and lots of fobbing off my GP has finally referred me to a rheumatologist to see if I have a form of arthritis. My appointments not until next February though!!

I'm on HRT but it's made no difference to my joints. Also suggest going back to GP and ask for more investigation.

Do you have psoriasis at all? Psoriatic arthritis can cause these symptoms as can normal osteoarthritis.

I started on HRT for this. It doesn't make it go away, but it helps.

Also diet - plenty of omega 3 fatty acids and not so much sat fats. Vitamin D and also make sure you have enough magnesium in your diet (or take magnesium citrate)

The leg and ankle pain is dreadful, isn’t it? It wakes me up and nothing seems to help. I’ve been taking sertraline which seems to keep it at bay while I fall asleep - has your GP suggested this? At least then I get a few hours sleep. Might be worth trying?
