HRT, Nausea & Night Sweats

Looking for reassurance. First cycle completed (had my last Utrogestan dose last night). I have been having awful nausea, shaking/trembling and night sweats even though I’m on 3 pumps of Oestrogel (started on 1 then slowly increased).

I never had any sort of sweats before starting HRT. My symptoms were extreme anxiety and waking through the night for over a year. I’m completely confused as to why I’m getting these symptoms. Everything I read from other posters seem to state that HRT stopped sweats in their tracks after a short time, not bring them on! Can anyone help? Does this mean I’m not absorbing the gel? The nausea is horrific and I’m having to take Cyclizine to help. I have no appetite and have lost weight. So sick of feeling this awful 😞 thanks for reading.

Nausea, weight loss and sweating could indicate an overactive thyroid. Changes often happen around the time of hormonal upheaval such as pregnancy and menopause. Maybe worth asking for some blood tests to rule that out.

Common symptoms

Symptoms of an overactive thyroid can include:

nervousness, anxiety and irritability
hyperactivity – you may find it hard to stay still and have a lot of nervous energy
mood swings
difficulty sleeping
feeling tired all the time
sensitivity to heat
muscle weakness
diarrhoea
needing to pee more often than usual
persistent thirst
itchiness
loss of interest in sex
Common signs

An overactive thyroid can also cause the following physical signs:

a swelling in your neck caused by an enlarged thyroid gland (goitre)
an irregular and/or unusually fast heart rate (palpitations)
twitching or trembling
warm skin and excessive sweating
red palms of your hands
loose nails
a raised, itchy rash – known as hives (urticaria)
patchy hair loss or thinning
weight loss – often despite an increased appetite
eye problems, such as redness, dryness or vision problems (see complications of an overactive thyroid)

Although it says weight loss despite increased appetite, many people have nausea and lose their appetite too.

I'm no where near as bad as you and I did have some hotness before starting hrt though wouldn't describe as hot flushes...however I have definitely had some hot sweats at night since I started. I'm also in first cycle and have another week of utrogestan to go.

Sounds awful. Maybe you are one of the unfortunate people who get the side effects? Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Thanks both. Have had my thyroid tested and no issues. Have had more bloods taken and have appointment with gp on Tuesday so hopefully she will shed some light on things. I had hyperemesis gravidarum in pregnancy so wondering if the hormones are causing same?
