Can any of you relate?
I am 49 and certainly in perimenopause - erratic periods the whole thing. One really strange symptom I have been getting is my arms and feet ten to "fall asleep" more easily than ever. I could be sitting for only 10-15 minutes and I get the pins and needles, at night I wake up a few times a week with my hand or arm that is fallen asleep. It is positional, in that it goes away once I move around but I don't know why this is happening. Very nervous about the possibility of MS. I also get prickly skin at times mostly in my legs and it seems worse at ovulation and right before my period.
On top of everything else my anxiety is heightened and worrying about his is making it much worse.
Has anyone else experienced such a thing during the menopause transition?

This tingling is very, very common, so don't worry. It is caused by fluctuating hormone levels during peri-menopause. I had it as well.

I highly, highly recommend HRT. It is truly a life saver. I also had horrible anxiety along with a raft of other issues, and all of them are a distant memory. I feel great and back to my old self. There is no reason to suffer with peri-menopause.

I had so much tingling in my arms & face I also panicked about MS -Dr google is a curse sometimes!
Have you had any blood tests done recently?

B12 deficiency, thyroid issues, low vitamin D -amongst other things-can be a cause of tingling/pins & needles. Maybe something underlying is increasing the likelihood of the positional pins & needles?

All those issues also cause anxiety btw, as does peri.

I would whole heartedly agree with Aquamarine - get yourself onto HRT, there is no need to put up with things.

I've only been on it for a few months but the change has been amazing. I sleep all night, have far more energy and have stopped having horrendous mood swings.

Itsanewdayforme · 26/07/2021 16:55

Yes I had it. It was awful at the time but I went onto HRT and it stopped.

I've got it too. It's worse in the run up to my now biblical periods. I did the whole MS scare (and saw the GP) but all was OK. If only I could get through to my GP for HRT... that's another story.

This infuriates me. Most gp's are shockingly uninformed when it comes to peri/menopause. Go back to your GP armed with the NICE guidelines for treating peri-menopause. Do not allow your ignorant them to brush you off. Demand treatment, go to another gp, or go private.

Thank you for sharing your responses. It makes me feel better that this sounds like a not unheard of peri symptom.
I am seriously going to consider HRT sooner than later I think. It seems like there is a new set of symptoms every week. It’s exhausting going through the worry every time something new pops up!
