Do I need to consult the GP?

Evening all.

I'm 42. Almost the day I turned 40, my once regular as clockwork cycles became irregular. I'm not frequently skipping whole cycles. This cycle is 9.5 weeks in and counting (my Covid vaccine brought one on 10 days early, nothing since).

This is my longest cycle.

I do NOT have a load of other symptoms:

  • I do have some night sweats but I'm not massively bothered by them
  • My PMT is worse but only when I've had a very delayed period (and have had v sore boobs during PMT) which I've never had before apart from when pregnant)
  • my energy levels seem ok
  • sleeping pretty well at the moment apart from the night sweats

I don't feel like I need to see a GP for the other symptoms as I can cope with them well.

But should I consult the GP given I'm on the younger side of peri/menopause and my periods have become so irregular?

I wouldn't hesitate to if I was struggling to cope with the other symptoms.

You only need to see a GP if a) you want to discuss HRT or b) need some reassurance, that this is peri (they won't do tests).

If your periods stop before 45 or turn up only once every 6 months, it would be wise to consider HRT as medically it's recommended for women who become menopausal before 45.
