remedies for joint pain

I thought I was getting off lightly with the menopause and have found most of the symptoms manageable for me. I'm 55 been in menopause for about 4-5 years. However in the last twelve months my joints, especially my knees and hips, have become so painful it's affecting my life. GP isnt the slightest bit interested. I am about a stone overweight so he just focuses on that. I am losing weight slowly and steadily but the pain is awful. Somedays I feel like I have actually been shot through the knees. :(
I cant afford to go private or see a specialist and in the grand scheme I'm not doing too badly.
The internet is full full full of recomendations for supplements and natural remedies but I dont know which are really useful and which are just rubbish.
Can anyone recommend something that helped them?
I am looking into low impact exercise but to be honest some days I am struggling to get down the stairs. I walk everyday though and the pain is less as the day goes on.

I've noticed for the last couple of years that my right hip is getting quite painful (I'm 50 and no sign of menopause just yet) and my Mum has got it too on the same side only she won't see the GP about hers......... I tried and got told to lose weight Hmm Since my 2nd AZ Covid vaccine, it's been absolutely agony and keeping me awake at night.

I've been taking a high strength calcium and magnesium supplement and that does seem to be easing it a little. The other help is applying lots of Movelat gel to the area rather than taking painkillers.

I've been suffering exactly the same, OP. It's agony some days, and when i get up in the morning I feel as if my hips and knees are so stiff I have to shuffle. I can hardly manage stairs any more most days and my hips sometimes click every time I move my legs - today it was click click click click with every tiny bit I moved my leg forward. I struggle to put my socks and shoes on.

I too am overweight and trying to lose weight, but it's hard because I'm struggling to walk any distance. If I could just something that would help the pain enough to be able to walk more, I think the weight would be easier to lose. I'm allergic to NSAIDs so I don't even have that option. I'm scared to go to the GP because I'm sure they will just say I need to lose weight- which I know is true, but it's hard without the exercise. It's also really getting me down mentally because I struggle most days just to get the house sorted out.

@humblesims Turmeric does seem to be a good option. But none of this is a quick fix. I have friends sadly who have inflammatory kinds of arthritis and even with very potent prescribed drugs they are told it can take 3-6 months.

However, you need to push your GP for a diagnosis. Not being mobile will set you up for other illnesses long term.

Your dr needs to send you for an X ray to see if it's wear and tear or inflammatory. if it's wear and tear then you'll be on the list for knee replacements!

Thanks for the advice. I know I really need to push the GP. Annoyingly my regular GP who was a woman slightly older than me who I always saw as an ally and was always ready to listen has (of course) retired and my new doc is a young guy who isnt interested. Added to that the fact that my surgery since lockdown has turned into Fort Knox. You cant get in and no-one answers the phone. My last consultation with new doc was a ten minute phone consult which I had to wait nearly five weeks for. I am having success losing weight but it is slow. I'm sorry to hear you are suffering so badly too @Glitterblue
