How are you supposed to know if menopausal after hysterectomy!

I know this will probably be blood tests but how often? Do I have to demand these?

I kept my ovaries but everything came out including Fallopian tubes

I had zoladex in December another in March and had the surgery 4 weeks ago. So I didn’t have any periods between January and last month. I have no breast tenderness to go by either as to whether I ovulate, no clue whether my ovaries will ever restart after zoladex and surgery

Has anyone had regular bloods after hysterectomy? What is the normal protocol with detecting menopause? I am 40

Since I posted I have done multiple ovulation tests and all negative. I’m disappointed but not giving up hope yet

I had a hysterectomy two years ago but kept my ovaries to prevent me going into surgical menopause. I was 36 at the time. I've heard contrasting things about menopause-was told by consultant that I would have five good years left with my ovaries working well, and was told by gp that I would go through menopause at the normal age. I really don't know. I still ovulate, as I have sore breasts around the time of the month I used to have periods.

I've struggled with weight gain and painful knee joints since my hysterectomy. I really need to do something about those. I just wish there was more information out there about menopause.

I had a radical hysterectomy aged 31 for cervical cancer, ovaries kept. I think I’m menopausal now at 47 but it is tricky to know. I have lots of symptoms but have an avoidance of GP’s so haven’t sought help yet.

I had an oophorectomy alongside my hysterectomy and went straight into menopause - it was very obvious (I hadn't been near menopause beforehand). I had my first hot flush within 24 hours of waving goodbye to my ovaries.

What happens when you are post menopausal and haven’t had a natural period for over two years. Then you begin HRT and start bleeding but are not showing to be absorbing the oestrogen? Surely something is triggering bleeds? Recent scans and hysteroscopy etc all show healthy womb?

I had a hysterectomy with bowel and bladder repair 15 years ago and ovaries were left intact. I am now nearly 60 , have never had symptoms of menopause and was really shocked and upset this week after my physiotherapist (pelvic floor) told me I should see my G.P. as I have bladder atrophy. She was really surprised that I was not followed up after hysterectomy and has said I need oestrogen cream. I am trying to make an appointment to follow this up urgently.

@Shehasadiamondinthesky

You don't go looking for the menopause, it comes looking for you with a large brick in it's hand. You will know. Mine took me by surprise.
So true!

So I have had my ovaries shut down by an implant - but I didn’t take the HRT (livial) as I was stupid and thought it was fine 😐

I have horrendous night sweats, dry hair, am exhausted etc and this implant should have worn off by now (12 weeks I had it 7th March)

I just don’t know how I will know if I should or should not take HRT 😂[/quote]
You are correct that the menopause occurs once ovulation ceases. The periods stopping is just a symptom of it, along with the hot flushes etc. The zoladex puts you into a temporary menopause as it blocks the hormone which controls the menstrual cycle, so you won’t be ovulating and will have low oestrogen levels, and the Livial corrects this without adding actual oestrogen.
The zoladex effect has probably not worn off completely yet. However women who have a hysterectomy with ovarian conservation do go into menopause earlier.
Either talk to your GP first, or try taking the Livial , if you have it, for a couple of months. You can then stop and see if the symptoms come back, in which case you need to speak to the GP about continuing HRT.
