HRT has been amazing for me - even in peri

So I'm under 43 and have been sooooooooooo tired for about a year, periods getting very light, some hot moments, vaginal dryness, no sex drive and migraines started.

Thanks to this site, Davina documentary and some older ladies at work I wondered if it was peri menopause. Talked to mum and found out she was finished menopause by mid 40s - was totally shocked as never knew..

So took myself to the DR. Hormone bloods came back normal but they put me on HRT. Its been two months and the change is HUGE. I'm not so tired, I actually fancy my husband, migraines have eased and bye bye dryness.

Im so grateful to aibu for making me aware of peri menopause.

Of course HRT isn't for every woman and each person makes their own balanced descion but OMG I finally feel like me again

@Hankunamatata - I've done all the reading, it's reassuring that HRT can help, I'm not sure that what I'm currently prescribed is helping as much as I hoped. Thanks for the info

Hankunamatata · 13/06/2021 18:30

@Rosebud21 my friends on her 3rd combo of HRT. Guess it can take a while to find the right combo.

Mineral coil was suggested with estrogen patches but couldn't face another iud

I have a Mirena IUD, & am taking Elleste solo (estradiol). Mirena insertion is brutal, fortunately I had my second inserted while under GA when having a hysteroscopy. This combo helped for a few years, but now sweats, fatigue, anxiety & brain fog have returned. Time for a rethink

gottakeeponmovin · 13/06/2021 19:47

I also started recently. The hot flushes were too much to bear. I coped for six months when they were just at night - even though they were waking me up around four times a night - but when i started getting them during the day I decided I couldn't cope any longer. I tried natural remedies first and now I am on HRT. The doctor explained the risks to me and they are actually v low. Glad I did it

Queenie24 · 14/06/2021 16:47

Can I ask what HRT are you on please

Sisisimone · 15/06/2021 09:58

I'm so glad to hear this OP. I'm just about to start Evorel as well, just waiting for my period to start this week and can't wait to slap it on! My blood tests were also normal but hoping it will help with symptoms of terrible mood swings, brain fog, aching joints, aura migraines, insomnia and weight gain. Fingers crossed!

HappyStep1 · 15/06/2021 13:08

This gives me encouragement I need to go back to my GP.
I had the bloods come back normal and was dismissed as not required as I didn't get hot flushes, everything else, not those so HRT not suitable.
I'm close to breaking point now, been like this for two years....

DragonWillow · 15/06/2021 13:16

Rosebud21 - i'm on the same & wondering if a change to patches would be beneficial. HRT has changed my life but I still suffer slightly from forgetfulness & anxiety on occasion although no where close to how it was before. Do you mind me asking what dose of tablet you take please?

Sometimesfraught82 · 15/06/2021 13:19

Me too
My hair has honestly never been so thick and gorgeous. Ever!!

Sometimesfraught82 · 15/06/2021 13:19

I am patches

Sometimesfraught82 · 15/06/2021 13:24

and my sleep improved exponentially

I went on because became seriously underweight and at risk of osteoporosis

housework1977 · 15/06/2021 13:26

I tried the oestrogel for a week but it made me worse! Brain fog like ive never had and morning sickness and severe bloating... I've given up wjth it but the insomnia continues. I'm thinking of going back on the pill...

RatherbeinCanada · 15/06/2021 13:26

So glad to hear about your positive experience. I went to see my GP about my symptoms (as we watched the Davina programme my DH said thats you!) as they had been bothering me for a while. My mood has been really up and down, getting really sad and angry although I'm not sure why. My periods are all over the place. I've also been having hot flushes and going really red. I have a lot of medical issues so unpicking it can be difficult.
My bloods came back normal and I was given sertraline to help my mood. It's not helping. Going to give it a bit more time but I'm fairly sure I'm in peri menopause. My mum died of aggressive ovarian cancer and her oncologist recommended that I should have a hysterectomy at 40 (I'm late 30s). I just wish they'd take the damn thing away, its nothing but trouble.

@Moomin37 where are the Newson clinic based? Have heard they are good! Or did you do an online consultation?

I’m expecting opposition from my GP due to breast cancer history si would rather go straight to the experts.

Rosebud21 · 15/06/2021 14:39

@DragonWillow 2mg.

Rather than go to a clinic, change your GP

Mine was wholly and unequivocally supportive

Delatron · 15/06/2021 17:06

That’s good @Sometimesfraught82 I am being a bit presumptuous that they will be unhelpful! They may be supportive. I just don’t fancy a battle due to the cancer history and I’m not sure how clued up they’ll be on the risk versus benefits. It’s not a very well understood area in general so I was wondering if I needed a specialist.

Go to GP first If doesn’t listen, whoever you decide re clinic I’d change GP
Moomin37 · 15/06/2021 22:27

@Delatron They are based in Stratford Upon Avon but I had my consultation online. I haven't had a great experience with NHS GPs so went straight there and so glad I did. My NHS GP has now agreed to take on the prescription, although I might return to Newson for a review and to get testosterone as that's not available on the NHS.

DesdemonaDryEyes · 15/06/2021 22:30

Do people actually go to the GP with hot flushes 🤔

And please check the origins of your HRT.

Nsky · 15/06/2021 22:44

Lucky you could have it, I wasn’t due to other meds

Go back to a different GP definitely. I was reading an article by Louise Newsom and she said that the vast majority of the patients at her clinic didn't get hot flushes, it was the myriad of other symptoms such as anxiety, mood swings, brain fog etc that were most debilitating. My bloods were normal and I was dismissed by first GP (completely against NICE guidelines). I made an appointment with a 2nd GP and they couldn't have been more different. Women don't have to suffer when there are safe and effective treatments out there. Arm yourself with the NICE guidelines and call back
JinglingHellsBells · 16/06/2021 08:11

Err. what an odd comment @DesdemonaDryEyes

Are you menopausal (yet? Were?)

Yes of course women don't want to put up with hourly (or more) hot flushes, dripping in sweat and waking them up all night.

check the origins of your HRT?

I assume you mean that the old types were made from mares urine.

Modern HRT is made from plants. Yams in fact. Loved by all vegans .

JinglingHellsBells · 16/06/2021 08:13

@Nsky

You need to query this @Nsky. There are very few if any drugs that prevent using HRT. Even women who have had breast cancer can use it now.

Your dr is probably talking nonsense. Have you checked with anyone else or even online to see if what you take prohibits HRT use?

Nsky · 16/06/2021 08:47

Luckily it’s all in the past, tho now have hormonal depression, was a nightmare to get right meds tho😡
