Quick question about taking Utrogeston vaginally

Been advised by doctor that I can take this vaginally due to dysphagia. The regular oral method instructions say to take on an empty stomach. Does that also apply to vaginal method?

No. Because it doesn't 'go' anywhere, except where it's put.

You don't even need to take it orally on an empty stomach according to my consultant. The reason for that is food increases its absorption and for some women that equals more side effects (but on the other hand increases its effectiveness which can be a good thing.)

Oh really? I would have thought that food would decrease absorption - that’s the reason I take my thyroxine on an empty stomach.
Thanks for the info: I did think that the vaginal application shouldn’t be affected by digestion but it’s all new to me & v keen to get it right!

No, it doesn't. It's described in exactly the same way on the website of Dr Louise Newson.

I now use it vaginally but when I was taking it orally I always had a small snack at bedtime before taking it. That's because it's often poorly absorbed orally (twice as effective vaginally) and I wanted to ensure I got a good 'dose' of it as I use it less than once a month.

This has given me an idea:
I'm on Evorel 75 patches and utrogestan tablets.
My Newson menopause GP has doubled my daily dose of utrogestan to 200mg due to prolonged vaginal bleeding; been investigated by hysteroscopy and all normal, so dr thinks it's HRT related and to give the double dose of utrogestan a few months to stop the bleeding.
I always take it on an empty stomach, but now I'm wondering should I have a snack when I take the tablets at night, to increase its absorption, and , hopefully, its effectiveness.
I'm careful about weight control, and don't usually eat between meals, but could have something like a banana.

@bellabride I just used to have something very small like an oat cake or two.
