Hormone levels/testosterone

How do you go about getting hormone tests and potentially a prescription for testosterone? Does it have to be private? How do I access menopause clinics?

My gp practice don't want to discuss it. I had a full hysterectomy 2 yrs ago and take oestrogel on repeat prescription and gp says all should be fine. But I'm feeling exhausted, achy, tearful, anxious and depressed, even though I'm on the maximum dose. My research shows the oestrogel might need to be balanced with testosterone?

Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks

Testosterone is not licensed in this country to be prescribed for menopause! (Think I’m right in saying that). You need to get it from a private clinic and pay privately for it… I think you can get it from your gp for low libido only so you could lie to get it on the NHS but it means you won’t be monitored for what you actually need it for. My research says that testosterone is for brain clarity and energy, could it be that your oestrogen levels are still low and you actually need to tweak/increase that first 😊

I did a home blood test from Thriva which showed low testosterone (later confirmed by more blood tests) but in my experience with the GP they don’t know what to do when you present with it.

I think it is possible in some areas to get testogel on the NHS. I’m trying the private route first and if I find treatment that helps will go back to request it on the NHS as it’s very expensive.

Liz Earle did a recent podcast on testosterone..

I kind of thought testosterone formed part of ‘HRT’, as it’s a hormone and you need to replace it but HRT seems shorthand just for estrogen (and progesterone if you have a womb)

The Newson Clinic prescribes testosterone - see the Menopause Doctor (Dr Louise Newson) on Instagram.

I have testosterone as part of my “potion”, but yes, I see a specialist privately (not Dr Newsom).

Newson Health clinic can prescribe it privately. Have a google of their website.

I get testosterone via bodybuilding sources. I actually inject tiny amounts. It's made a huge difference in my libido.
