Aching joints was one of the first signs for me

Applejack87 · 08/05/2021 06:53

I’ve got terrible pains in my hips when I’m in bed also if I sit down for too long I’m as stiff as a poker when I get up , sometimes my ankles ache as well
All part & parcel of middle age I guess 😞

Same here, elbows, knees all were so stiff and painful. Struggled getting up from the toilet! It is related to the drop in oestrogen which has anti inflammatory properties. I started on HRT patch and within 3 days felt an improvement. It is so much better, worth a try ?

Daft questions and probably need to Google -But, can. You take oestrogen on its own or does it need to be hrt? Are there any side effects and which one is best? Thanks

It comes in many forms, gel, tablets, creams, patches. Plus oestrogen on its own is only recommended if you have had your womb removed. Otherwise you need progesterone too which helps prevent thickening to the lining of the uterus and possible increase risk in endometrial cancer. Chat with GP or at a well woman clinic.

Oestrogen has definitely helped with my stiff joints. I was off oestrogen for a while and noticed a difference. It improved almost as soon as I went back on.

YOYO

Can I ask what brand and dosage you're on. Dr said they would start me on a low dose 1% and see how I get on. Can I also ask how long you took them before noticing an improvement the first time? Tia

Aching joints was one of the reasons for me starting HRT, and it's definitely helped.
Also helped by taking magnesium supplements, and regular yoga.

beinglikedisoverrated · 23/05/2021 22:39

Can anyone tell me how long and what dosage before you saw improvements?

Try putting a pillow between your knees in bed. It really helps with the hips.

I thought I was peri-menopausal, had horrible joint pain. Elbows, wrists, ankles, upper arms. Thought I'd request hrt when I turned 45.

However, I started taking high dose vit d (and magnesium) at the start of Covid and joint pain has gone.

If it returns, I'll ask for hrt. No qualms.

Update- on HRT. Only 1% though. And only two weeks in. What dosage were people on ( and how long were you taking it for?) until you noticed improvement?
