Hormone levels showing as post menopause

Hello
Appreciate this is a bit vague but I wondered if anyone had an experience. I’ve been on Estradot patched 75mgs and utrogestan 100mgs (day 12-25) for 6 months. Still having really bad anxiety and other classic symptoms, doctor sent me for blood test which has come back as ‘post menopausal level satisfactory’. Am mystified as still having very regular periods at 47. Doctor not able to talk to me until next week. Any ideas? Does this mean I’m not going mad and explains why I feel so rotten? Thank you

This is really weird. They can't expect a reliable blood test for hormones when you are taking hormones!

Also, your dose is incorrect. Does your GP know anything about menopause ? Hmm

The dose- it's on the leaflet in the pack! - is 200mgs for those days, not one capsule- it's 2.

Also, your periods may not be periods- they are a withdrawal bleed created by the HRT cycle.

I think you should see a different GP- too many things wrong with all of this.

@hollypocks here is the leaflet for utrogestan.
See the dose. www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/352/smpc

The recommended dose is 200 mg daily at bedtime, for twelve days in the last half of each therapeutic cycle (beginning on Day 15 of the cycle and ending on Day 26). Withdrawal bleeding may occur in the following week.

Alternatively 100 mg can be given at bedtime from Day 1 to Day 25 of each therapeutic cycle, withdrawal bleeding being less with this treatment schedule.

Apologies @JinglingHellsBells it is my error, I am on 200mgs so I think the dose is right. But agree on taking hormones and then having a blood test, surely the fact they are so low is very odd given I’m on patches etc. Thank you for replying

If you use sequential HRT you will have a regular bleed at the end of the progesterone phase regardless of what your natural hormone levels are doing.

It's hard to advise without knowing what the tests were for. They could be your estrogen levels or FSH.
I think you ought to ask your dr what they are trying to achieve with the tests and go from there.
Yes you could be post meno at 47 and the hrt you are using gives a bleed each month. Unless you stop, you can't tell if it's your 'own' period or a withdrawal bleed.

Thanks both, I’ll try and get more info from the doctor, feel so wretched that at least I might be making progress in working out what may be impacting. I was just surprised that the result came back as that but clearly need more context

I hear you. I'm 46 and on HRT and still feel like crap. I think my dose needs changing. Have you seen the my menopause doctor website? A GP friend of mine who is a menopause specialist recommended it. Lots of good info and advise that younger women may need more oestrogen than older women.

hollypocks · 05/05/2021 12:49

I shall check that out @Ethelfromnumber73, sorry that you are feeling so bad too. Really hope you can get your HRT changed and feel better

Finally spoke to the doctor, estrogen at 11. Suggests increasing patch to 100mgs but risks as I’ve had DVT previously though think I’m going to go for it. Absolutely sure I’m still ovulating so don’t think I’m menopausal as yer
