Keep going with the implant?

I'm 50, and have been on the Nexplanon/Implanon implant for 9 years. I have had NO periods/bleeding throughout, which is awesome!

I am due to have my implant replaced; my GP has refused, saying he wants me to stop, then have blood tests after a few weeks "to see if I am in menopause".

I'm not at all keen - I want to keep going with the implant, no risk of "flooding", and try HRT alongside, as I have the most shocking brain fog, weight gain, minor sleep disruption, concentration, and no drive/motivation.

Touch wood I haven't had the hot flushes, but I've really only just realised how much I am struggling in work and at home, with just being "absent."

Does this sound reasonable? I'm seeing another GP on Friday, and would like to sound reasonable but determined, as the last 9 period-free years have been heavenly! I presume I'd need to go onto the "full" HRT as the progestogen from the implant isn't sufficient, but that's fine, I'd like to try something now, to try and get myself back!

In case anyone else is in a similar situation in the future, here's a quick update.

I saw another GP and she was happy to replace the implant for another 3 years. I've seen her again today and picked up my HRT patches this afternoon. She's put me on Estradiol 50mcg & Norethisterone 140 mcg — that's a slightly lower level to account for the progestogen which is coming from the implant (it wouldn't have been enough on its own - she contacted a gynaecologist to check how to proceed).

I'm relieved to have started this, and I hope I start feeling a bit more like me in the next few weeks. Luckily I'm in Australia, where GP services (at least where I am) are fast and abundant. Onwards and upwards!
