Short summary:

Have so many symptoms which lead me to think am perimenopausal. My hormones dictate my life. Can go from being totally fine and nothing bothers me to suicidal depending on where I am in my cycle.

Spoke to the GP almost a year ago "you're depressed, here's some ADs" said no, I'm not depressed, "it's Covid, you need ADs," explained again I'm not depressed and it is my hormones which dictate everything.

Paid hundreds of pounds to the Newson Health clinic, on the appointment the dr said I am v likely perimenopausal and need HRT but want to do blood tests too. Fine.

Just got a short paragraph through saying my thyroid is low and cholesterol low and once both of those are sorted if I still have symptoms come back to them?! Wtf.

I've replied and said this is not what I understood was going to happen and that why can't I get HRT while still reviewing my thyroid meds etc with the dr? Have been on Levothyroxine for almost a decade.

I feel so upset. No one is listening!! Maybe I'm over reacting but I tick every box for symptoms and get my thyroid checked by the GP every year and I just can't believe that I've paid literally hundreds of pounds to be back to square one. I'm so upset.

It really boils my piss the way women are ignored or told to suck it up by doctors. It's bloody outrageous. My DH is practically given a medal any time he goes to the GP.

You'll have to be persistent and keep going until you find a doctor who actually grasps what peri-meno actually means and how to treat the symptoms.

What are your friends hoping to achieve?
No GP will give them HRT unless they have symptoms affecting quality of life.

Well certainly in my social circle, the anecdotal "my hair and skin are so much better" comments are enough to spark interest on their own. All you then need to do is trot off to the GP and tell all about your sleepless nights, anxiety, achey wrists, itchy boobs, sexual issues etc and jobs a good un (at least in women of the typical age). I know of a number of people who have done it.

I'm genuinely not trying to put off the OP or suggest that HRT isn't necessary. As I said, I had very early symptoms and I'm on HRT and have been for a couple of years which has made a big difference to me. I'm simply putting forward explanations as to why the doctors are being careful and trying to rule out other things first, particularly due to her age.

Achy wrists and itchy boobs would be a dream compared to what I'm going through tbh. Pretty sure that wouldn't even register right now!!

But that in itself might indicate there's another issue OP.

I do hope you get it sorted but it is important to rule everything else out. You wouldn't want them missing something serious.
@JinglingHellsBells I could, at the moment it's hard to know what is stroke recovery and what is peri so no rush tbh.

The specialist GP did research properly it wasn't a flat at no. It doesn't help that I had womb ablation so it's harder to track if I am having a period or just spotting. I had months of spotting again that then stopped when I had my first AZ vaccine so again may as well wait until I've had the 2nd one.

Worst symptoms are insomnia but I've never been a fear sleeper and always had severe PMT.

Urgh it's just a mess and complicated!
@RandomMess I had an ischemic stroke 4 years ago. I have recently started hrt. Like you I put lots of my issues down to my stroke, however since starting HRT my energy levels have turned around - back to my pre stroke levels, my processing and memory skills have improved and my emotional lability and word finding difficulties have gone. Since my stroke I had reduced my working hours and I was planning my life around persistent neurofatigue. I am now living life as I was previously. I would never had known had I not tried it. I thought I had reached was my 'new normal' as my recovery had plateaued. Turns out it wasn't !

Newson Health are experts in this field and, if they are suggesting you wait, I'm sure there will be a good reason as they often will start HRT where GPs and others won't.

Maybe they want these other issues sorting first so you are not trying to balance the HRT to the right levels while juggling other issues too
