Hysterectomy - what to take with me?

Having a hysterectomy next week. Can anyone offer advice of what bits to pack in my bag that I may not have already thought of. Esp since I won't be getting any visitors to bring things in. Any tips appreciated. Thanks.

@fatisnotafeeling hope you are doing ok, I just got home today all the tips from the lovely ladies helped a lot, esp the chargers, I had everything on full time. It's tough being back with the family much as I absolutely love it and wouldn't want to change it, but there's certainly less peace and I'm trying not to get drawn into things and relax, hubby is being a trooper

As well as drinks, take snacks as you may go a long time without food on the day of surgery and the food may be awful and/or tiny portions.
I also had books on my phone, rather than music.
I second that recovery took a long time. I had less pain than expected but was very weak and not back to normal for a few months.

@iminthegarden a quick tip - wear pjs for longer, helps remind everyone you are not well and have been through a lot. Hope you are feeling better.

Thank you @Martinisarebetterdirty I've just put surgical stockings and a nightie on (something I've never worn) so I hope they get the message

I took one of those long grabber sticks and honestly it saved my life. I used it to grab things that had dropped on the floor when I couldn't bend, ditto when I dropped flannel, to pull my slippers closer, to return my charging wire to the bed when it had dropped down the side, to lean on like a walking stick when I was discharged. Would really recommend it.

Oh sorry! See you are already back home op. Please take things very steadily! Flowers

fatisnotafeeling · 02/05/2021 20:16

@iminthegarden I'm glad your home and resting up.

Unfortunately mine didn't go ahead, it's incredibly frustrating as I was there all ready to go and it was cancelled last minute because they couldn't fit me in. They are calling me on Tuesday with a new date.

I really hope you recover quickly.

iminthegarden · 02/05/2021 21:08

@fatisnotafeeling SO sorry to hear this, that is very hard to deal with after having got everything in place, very frustrating. I hope you get a date sorted on Tuesday. Sorry again, keep us posted
