HRT Stresses

I am hopeful someone can advise.
I am early meno and have been on HRT for 2 years now. Last year I acquired a new, younger GP who keeps talking about 'weaning' me off?!
I has an appointment with Newson Health who wrote a letter which their advise which was actually to increase my prescription, but my GP keeps pushing back, saying he believes menopause is a natural process we all need to go through (not that he has to go through it of course!)
As its a small country practice my GP changing options are limited, but its so stressful having these conversations all the time. Has anyone had any success escalating to the practice manager or CCG or will that just make things worse do you think? Im just not quite sure what to do, to get the outcome I need !?

Maybe print off the NICE guidance on menopause (pinned top of this page) and take it to the GP?

It's very accepted treatment that women with premature or early menopause use HRT up to age 50 at least.

Your other option is to continue with the Newson clinic and get it via them.

Thank you. I assume paying privately will cost a fortune though?

I am so reluctant to do this, though accept it as last resort. I just wondered if anyone has had any joy through escalating or if I am best placed to play contrite and needy to try and change GP's mind?!

How much do private prescriptions cost, I daren't ask?!

I think you need to call your GP on this. It's not acceptable. There is also information on the British Menopause Society website under PUBLICATIONS where there is a consensus statement on HRT. The main points are that there is no time limit to using HRT and that women with early menopause need to continue.

Your GP needs to sign up to one of the many courses they offer drs on meno and HRT!!!

How old are you now?
There is no debate over using HRT to 50 if you had an early menopause.

The Newson clinic has the costs of HRT on their website.

HRT can be used well past 50, for years and years. Your GP doesn't know what they're talking about, as usual.

I am 47! I actually believe I went into menopause almost 10 years ago, but the symptoms were progressive and it wasn't until the hot flushes hit with a vengance that I went and demanded it!

I do seem to have earned a call back from the locum registrar regarding getting a DEXA scan today after badgering them consistently, but I do have to keep asking and I'm not there yet!
Oh and if I can manage it, I will be taking it to my grave too, hence my frustration at the difficulties I am finding already!

Thank you, I will go look at the British Menopause Site, though my GP seems to take offence to me suggesting he is not well informed :)
