High cholesterol, ? Try HRT

I last had a period 5 years ago and while it hasn't been easy I have managed things ok. The main problem for me has been incredibly painful joints.

I've been considering HRT for this reason but keep talking myself out of it. Anyway, my cholesterol has now come back very high, at the level my GP recommends statins. My BMI is within normal range, I don't drink or smoke so perhaps there is a genetic link.

Has anyone found HRT has helped bring cholesterol down? I'm thinking the risk of heart disease will be higher for me than the risk of breast cancer so may be worth it.

Tricky one.
No GP would prescribe hrt as a 'treatment' for high cholesterol.
First step is often telling you to exercise a lot (more)- at least 30 mins of moderate- energetic exercise a day - and change your diet. Has this been suggested?

Research does show that women on HRT have less CVD and plaque in the arteries is reduced by 50%.
They also have a better lipid profile ( that's fat= cholesterol) and less diabetes and less bowel cancer.

But to get HRT from your gp you would need to explain you had meno issues that were affecting your quality of life.

Thanks for this. I walk miles a day and follow all the healthy guidance. True they wouldn't advise hrt purely for high cholesterol, I'm just thinking it may be the thing to tip the balance for me decision wise. I've been considering it for a few months as painful joints really are a pita combined with all the other meno stuff it's just stacking up. My GP has been supportive when discussed previously and has suggested starting on gel and utrogestan.
Now it seems heart disease would seem a higher risk in my case if it is a genetic issue.

50%!!! That is staggering and quite conclusive isn't it.
