Joint pain

Hi

I'm looking for some advice or tips for joint pain. I'm 46, last normal period was 25th December 2019 but had couple of month last year spotting in June and October. Just a small pink spot when wiped, otherwise I wouldn't of noticed.

Past couple of weeks I've noticed I can hardly get out of bed, every bone in my body hurts and in particular my wrists, I can hardly do my daily activities they hurt so bad.

I did try HRT for couple of weeks or maybe less than that but it made me feel wobbly and made me anxious so I stopped.

Any experience with good vitamins and natural remedies?

What glucosamine and turmeric do you recommend, please?

Argh I went to do some things in my grandma's new flat today ready for her to move into - it's in an assisted living place and when we went in the front door, the lady who let is in took us along this lonnnng corridor and to a big set of stairs...I attempted to start climbing them and couldn't get past the first step 🙈 The lady was lovely and said she would show me to the lift which was another long walk and a long walk when I reached the top, and then I couldn't find the flat because the numbers don't make sense so now I'm in pain tonight. It's like a mix of sciatica and hip pain. I struggle massively with steps and stairs. I can walk down the stairs in my grandma's old house just fine but have to pull myself up them with the bannister or almost crawl up them. It's just horrendous. Luckily we don't have stairs at home but even the steps up into the porch I have to haul myself up using the door handle and windowsill

www.mymenopausetransformation.com/sore-joints/the-connection-between-your-sore-joints-and-changing-oestrogen-levels-during-menopause/ Maybe this would be interesting. She recommends olive oil capsules. I don't have joint pain with peri as such, but thumb and toe now randomly and painfully click. I've started flaxseed oil. I think it's working. Only a few days in. There's always a new symptom to deal with with this!

@Miljea sorry, just seen your question. I take the Seven Seas one, with glucosamine and turmeric combined.

@purpleben and all the others here! :)

Joint pain is a well known aspect of menopause.

Joints are cushioned by collagen which supports the cartilage that surrounds your bone joints and stop the ends rubbing together= pain.

The collagen in our bodies is directly related to estrogen levels.
It's also a major component of skin, which is why women's skin ages faster after menopause- the face sags and wrinkles appear!

The treatment if you are having other peri or post meno symptoms is HRT.
@purpleben Using HRT you need to give it time! A few weeks is not enough. Medical advice is to use it for at least 3 months to judge any improvement. It's not like a pain killer - it doesn't work in days- it needs to get into your system and reverse the changes that have occurred through peri meno (which can be years of a gradual loss of estrogen.)

BUT it's also worth having RA ruled out to make sure it's nothing like that.

Supplements like fish oils can help although there is no absolute science to prove they do.

My mother died of breast cancer Jingling, diagnosed at 46(I'm nearly 43) Her aunt also had it. There is no way I'm going on HRT. I'm finding the flaxseed oil is improving things. Also sage tablets for hot flushes are working brilliantly. HRT is not the only thing. I'm also looking forward to the end of being permanently on the hormonal merry go round, I don't want to add more hormones to the mix

I have been suffering with joint and muscle pain for the last 2 years. I have it in my feet, heels, calves, knees, shoulders, elbows and wrists. I have stiffness in the morning and after sitting for a time which sometimes causes me to limp and then loosens off after a bit. I was worried about it being something more sinister but I’ve had a full blood screening which has reassured me on several areas. The only thing that came back was that my iron levels were low, which I’ve been given tablets for.
I had tried menopace tablets and hadn’t felt they made a difference but Gp has suggested trying HRT for 3 months. Only 2 weeks in and no change yet on joints but feel so much better in myself with energy levels etc.
I have found that my water intake is very much to do with my joints and I too feel the pain is worse around my period. Really trying to drink more fluids over the course of the day or I end up waking for the loo several times! Will look at the pomegranate juice and also fish oil. I looked at turmeric but didn’t look like it should be taken with the Hrt.
I’m having a massage once a week on my legs and shoulder to try and loosen things up and have done a self referral to the physio. I think my weight is part of the problem but started the c25k all but very very slowly and got to wk4 but problems with my calf and Achilles meant I came home limping last week.🙁 Will keep on trying as worry if I’m like this now at 48 what am I going to be like in 20 yrs time?!

I'm so sorry to hear that @LoveMySituation. Obviously I didn't know that and the info for the OP doesn't apply to you. Glad you have found things to help.

All I'd add - not for you so much clearly- is that menopause symptoms don't always have an end point. My own mum still had flushes into her 80s and a friend told me last week that hers is still having them in her late 70s.
