Early 50’s and the skin on my body is very dry, any recommendations please? I’m sure it’s linked to my age.

I’m sure it’s linked to my age. I'm sure that mine is as well. I've being using Nivea Soft which seems to help and I've also taken a Cod Liver Oil tablet daily.

I might have to move onto something a bit more intensive soon though.

I'm using Garner 7 day moisturiser. It's cheap, small nice and most importantly for me absorbs quite quickly.

My skin is also very dry now I'm in my 50s.
I also try to exfoliate in the shower.

Neutrogena
Aveeno
Garnier
Diprobase (for skin rashes/ very dry skin)

I normally have dry skin and find dry skin brushing before a shower is good and a new body moisturiser by CeraVe which is fragrance free.

Clarins moisture rich body lotion with Shea butter - amazing stuff.

Noidea2114 · 19/04/2021 09:27

Basic e45.

Aveeno for extra dry skin has worked wonders for me. It's around £10 per worth every penny. It's even helped my very dry heels!

I think I’ve found my thread !!
Has anybody found any connection with dry skin and skin rashes ?
(For the love of God, please somebody say yes).

CarnageAtTheStGeorgesFete · 28/04/2021 21:17

Actually just noticed somebody mentioned Diprobase, I should read the thread properly 🙄🙂.

Dream Cream from Lush. It absorbs really easily. Or Hemp cream from Body Shop, which is heavy duty . Both are great for really dry skin.

Rina66 · 14/05/2021 03:23

I bought the new E45 spray this week from Boots on offer at £4.99 and it's fantastic. The spray makes it so easy to apply and my skin has never felt this soft. I can't recommend enough.

PS you can tell by the time I posted this that I'm menopausal too 😂

Aveeno is good once you have your skin under control again.

Diprobase lotion is good, but if you are in terrible discomfort try Diprobase ointment that you want - you usually have to ask for it in a pharmacy and not everywhere stocks it, but it is fantastic relief. It feels absolutely horrible when you put it on, but it will rescue your skin. And it is cheap - a tub will last for ages and ages.

Dry skin is also assisted by:

  • drinking loads of water
  • not having very long, hot showers, keep them brief and tepid. Also try showering less often, if things get very bad
  • not using soap-based product in the shower. Aveeno or even Sanex are better.

I like the Palmer's Cocoa Butter stuff that comes in a tub, the solid stuff. It melts as you put it on your skin. Even good on dry feet and I use it on my hands overnight after gardening or cleaning has taken its toll. Smells fantastic.

Also just bought the Vaseline Intensive Care Nature Skin Rejuvenation as a lighter lotion.

Coconut oil, from the food isle or Eucerin

CandidaAlbicans2 · 16/05/2021 16:05

CeraVe moisturising cream. I started using it after being recommended and I love it. Best is that it comes in a big tub (like E45), it's inexpensive, and not only is it nice on the body but it's so nice on my face too (so soft and no zits!). Ceraphil is another similar brand I've heard is good.
