Hi everyone,
Hopefully someone can give me some advice, or give me their experiences with HRT and perimenopause.
I'm 44, ive possibly been peri for past couple of years. I had bloods taken, and oestrogen levels were on the low side. For the past 6 months symptoms have been getting worse, periods closer together, acne, mood swings (no joke!!), bloated aches and pains to the extent I feel like a 90 year old Blush. Totally forgetful and brain fog. I've gynae appointment end of April and I've made an appointment to speak to my GP this week as I want to ask about HRT. Now my queries are.......

1.if my periods are closer together is my oesteogen levels higher??

  1. Would this mean i couldnt take hrt,.
  2. I've also been recently diagnosed with adenomyosis and fibroids, would hrt make these worse??
My head is melted and desperately want to feel like myself again. I want to have as much information as possible before I speak to them and not be fobbed off (I was offered antidepressants and a bit if fresh air for my mood swings, no thankyou!) And senior dr at the hospital told me I couldnt have endo/adeno because I have 4 kids. I eventually paid to go private and she diagnosed adenomyosis.

Sorry this is a bit waffly, but hope someone can give some advice!!
Many thanks x

Hi I can't answer all of your questions, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along in a minute. But I can say that if your oestrogen levels are low ( like mine) and you are in peri then you would likely benefit from hrt. Even if your periods are frequent, mine were too, though irregular, and I've been put on hrt. If one gp doesn't make sense to you see another. They give conflicting advice. I went through 3 gps, a fibroid specialist and a hysterectomy consultant before one last ditch attempt with a gp who has prescribed me hrt which is helping a lot, despite all previous doctors saying there was no point, I'm too young for menopause ( I'm 46) and similar bullshit. Hope you find answers but my advice is keep asking different doctors.

Thankyou for replying, thats good to know. I'm seeing my usual gp this time who is lovely and she listens to what I'm saying. That makes all the difference! I dont want to feel like crazy lady anymore and hope that hrt is something I can try. I've tried lots of different supplements which havnt worked for any length of time. I'll see what is suggested this week Smile

Hi, I can't give medical advice only personal experience.
I was like a lunatic before HRT and practically begged for help. The moods were horrendous to the point of giving up on life! Family life was awful due to me so I needed sorting. HRT has been a life saver I can't say that will be the same for you but I'm the sort of person that when things are so bad I will give anything a try for a better life.
Hope you feel better soon xx

Thank you for your reply. Sorry you felt like that, but glad HRT has helped you. I went back to gynae and eventually they agreed I was perimenopausal. Didn't want to start me on anything as I'm due to get a sigmoidoscooy for pain I'm having (this is the pain I have during my period.... ). I explained to him I had gone private and was told I had adenomyosis, which he pretty much dismissed!! Wasnt given HRT, but that's ok. I started taking Starflower oil capsules again and thankfully for the past couple of months my moods have stabilised out. I have the odd day where I feel totally crazy but they are definitely fewer. Last year I took the capsules and they seemed to help as well, but I ran out and never replaced them!! I now know to have a stash of them in the house ! He gave me transexamic acid for the heavy bleeding and that has helped too. If the starflower, painkillers and trans acid control my symptoms I might just stick with it. If symptoms get worse I will def demand to try HRT!! Thank you Smile
