Anyone using Oestrogel and Utrogestan?

Evorel Sequi patches caused irritation to the skin and very sore breasts so I'm now trying the above, yet to start. I have to take 2 tablets for 2 weeks.. not sure about the gel yet.
Anyone finding this helpful at all or is it causing any nasty side effects? I wanted to steer clear of pills as all the contraceptives I took caused me major mood drops.
Thanks x

I am. Only been on for 2 days.

I only started HRT 2 or 3 months ago. After years of fighting. I should have been on it years ago! Angry
I was on evorel patches (rubbish) and estradiol pills. Worked for a month or 2 and then seemed to stop.

New GP suggested Estrogel and utrogestan. Gel 3 times a day? That's not gonna happen!

Why are all GP's suddenly prescribing this? Is it the new 'thing'?

You do the gel all at once, so if they've said 3 pumps of gel, you don't do it on 3 different occasions.

I've been on the gel and utrogestan for over a year. Works very well for me with no side effects.

@BooseysMom Been using this for years (gel for over 12 years)
It's great. You can adjust the dose to suit your symptoms.
Utrogestan is micronised progesterone. (Utrogestan is the product name.)
It's made from yams. There is no comparison at all with the Pill which is a synthetic hormone. It was first used in fertility treatment and still is, in larger doses. Give it a try!

@Oblomov21 As PP says, you apply the gel once, or split the dose twice a day (am and pm) if you prefer.
Your patch- if you were using Evorel, that's estrodiol. Did you try pills as well?
A lot of Gps are now prescribing gel and Utrogestan as it's become the type of HRT preferred by most specialists (who've prescribed it for years.) It doesn't suit everyone, but it's worth a go. Hope you get on ok with it.

Thanks you Hells.

I found the gel worked great at first but then I stopped absorbing it properly, and my bloods showed very low levels of oestrogen. I was told this is quite common.

Oblomov21 · 03/04/2021 10:54

Interesting Ibiza thank you.

BooseysMom · 03/04/2021 11:23

@JinglingHellsBells.. thanks so much. That does make me feel better knowing it's helped you.Smile I found the Evorel patches to be useless although I was only using them for about 2 months. Maybe I didn't give them enough of a chance to work but when they started irritating the skin I stopped them. So now I've got this gel and tablets. Haven't started any of it yet as been really unsure about HRT from the start but it's clear I can't carry on like this. I've been crying really badly all morning, screaming at DH. He's taken DS to his mum's! I was fine then the period returned after a day of nothing and feeling flat and bang, I feel suicidal again! This is why I asked for the coil to stop the periods but they won't fit one.Sad

I've been prescribed sequi patches but dr didn't seem to think I could have gel as I still have regular periods. Is that right?

ladygindiva · 27/05/2021 18:15

I'm on the same as you op. I find it really convenient and no side effects, very effective and I find the utrogestan which I was dreading (as I previously reacted badly to progesterone in the mini pill and mirena etc ) doesn't make me feel bad at all. I find the gel waaaay more convenient than the patches I was on before, I apply one after morning shower and two before I go to sleep, it's no hassle.

MiniCooperLover · 27/05/2021 22:16

Did you start the gel and the tablets on the same day? I read up and the gel said Ok to start first time whenever and then realised I'm not starting tablets till the 1st. Does it matter if I've done gel w few days before tablets? What would that mean?
