Evorel Conti Extended Bleeding

Has anyone had experience of extended bleeding (more than 6 months) on the patches? I started HRT last April aged 55 after about 3 years with no period. At first things were ok ( apart from shortage of patches), but from September onwards I've been having regular bleeds each month which seem to be increasing. Saw a gynacolagist in Jan who did a full examination and ultra sound and thought everything was ok but though my problem might be not changing patches on the correct day, so we agreed I'd monitor for a couple of months. Literally a week later I started bleeding again and had bad period pain and night flushes again! I've seen the gynacologist again and he has now booked me in for a hiscoscopy and biopsy as he feels the bleeding has been going on for too long now, and told me to stop using the patches. He's suggesting if the microscopy is ok that I have a mirena coil instead. I'm now worried sick it's something serious. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Hi OP, While I have not been on HRT myself, I am a GP and regularly prescribe it. Breakthrough bleeding on HRT is pretty common and in most cases doesn't turn out to have any serious underlying cause, but this does warrant a biopsy as the worst case scenario would be something like an endometrial cancer. The fact that you had a normal ultrasound is quite reassuring as endometrial cancer typically causes abnormal thickening of the endometrium which tends to be visible on ultrasound, but as the bleeding is ongoing a biopsy will hopefully give you that full reassurance and then the focus can change to managing the symptoms.
Take care of yourself and try not to worry too much, but I know that is easier said than done.

Pbdr thank you for your reply. My initial reaction is to always panic and assume it's the big C. My womb lining was "normal" following the ultra sound, which is good. The bleeding isn't excessive and is brown - just hope its a case of The patches not being the best HRT for me.

Hi OP,
I've had this too!
I was on Evoril Conti patches for a couple of years and very happy to not have the night sweats and hot flushes.
I always had some brown discharge, but it became pretty constant a few months ago and I contacted my doctor at the start of the year.
I had a pelvic scan which showed some thickening, so last month had to go back to hospital for a biopsy. Fortunately it was clear, but I was told to come off the HRT.
I'm not sure what to do now. My symptoms are returning and I guess I'll have to return to the doctor to try another type of HRT, but I'm not going to rush into it.
I'm also mid fifties.
Good luck Thanks

I also had this light bleeding when I started several yrs ago on everol conti and I solved it by reducing the dose myself and cutting the patches in half Hmm.
It worked though !

Placemarking here because I'm another Conti bleeder!
The idea of cutting the patches in half is appealing except I'm a stickler for doctor's advice! But is it working well, @ManicMaisy?

Switch to Evorel Sequi? Worked for me in similar circs.

I've been doing this for the past 2 years now and it certainly works well for me anyway shallswim
