Coming off HRT - what to expect...

I've been on HRT for just over two years.
It's been wonderful!
But I was concerned as for the past few months I've had a continuous brown discharge which resulted in me having first a pelvic scan and then a biopsy.
Fortunately the biopsy was clear, but was told by the consultant to come off HRT.
This is two weeks ago and now my menopause symptoms (night sweats and hot flushes) are ramping up again.
I would like to see if I can live with it this time, but not sure what to expect.
Any advice/suggestions or similar experiences welcome.

If I were you, I'd be asking the consultant why they suggested coming off HRT. You really need more information. There are literally thousands of women who have spotting/ bleeding (on HRT) or not, and if there is no cause found and everything's normal, they arent asked to stop. (I have had those investigations.)

If you are bleeding (oddly) then the first route is usually to assess the dose and increase the progestogen or try a different type.
Normally the only reason to stop would be hyperplasia, and that's often treated with the Mirena coil.

Have you been told why you have to stop?

Sadly, no one can tell you what you will get now. Your flushes might carry on for a few months or years or even longer.

Have you thought of asking for a 2nd opinion from a menopause specialist? Not all gynaes are experts in menopause. Might not be generally known, but they all have their own specialisms.

Also... a brown discharge can be caused by vaginal atrophy because the walls are fragile and bleed. Have you noticed anything like soreness or pain? A lot of women use HRT and vaginal estrogen to overcome this problem.

Thanks Jingling,
I'm going to make a appointment with my Doctor and ask to be referred.
I don't get any soreness or pain, just the discharge.
In the meantime I have over two months of patches left and might well go back on them - or at least that was my thinking at 2 am this morning when I was on fire and unable to sleep 😁

Similar situation here - I have been on hrt 2.5 years happy on it. Routine appt flagged up lots of bleeding - pelvic scan last week showed lining 12mm thick instead of 4mm and next week having hysteroscopy and biopsy under general anaesthetic to check it out. had to stop HRT immediately now been 10 days and sleep worse got sweats and desperate to go back on. Consultant mentioned Miren coil as option if nothing sinister and a hormone imbalance but will I be allowed oestrogen too! Keeping everything crossed for next week.
