Hi, I’ve got a phone appt with a GP in the Newsom clinic and wondered if anyone who’d been could tell me what to expect? Thanks

They seem to prescribe Oestrogel and Utrogestan for most women as a first line choice. You will pay for the medication additionally. They can send a prescription and letter to your gp. They also allow to free follow up emails within a few months.

I wish I'd just asked my gp first

I had an appointment with a GP at the Newson clinic recently and it was so worth the wait and the money. I felt listened to and understood. I was taken seriously. I didn't have to 'make my case' and wasn't made to feel like I was taking up their precious time. I wasn't sent away empty handed with some generic advice that I could have found on the internet. It was a hugely positive experience. A complete contrast to my usual experience with GPs.

Thank you for your replies. I really don’t want to have to make my case either. I want to go through my symptoms and not have to fight off getting prescribed anti depressants. I’m at the point where I could ‘set fire to my life’ and it’s not a good place to be for me or others round me.

How long was your appt @Moomin37and is there anything I need to bring to it in terms of information other than symptoms? Do I need last period dates etc?

No there's questionairres to fill in wjen youre there. If the notes go to the gp you can then pick up the prescriptions through the nhs if you so choose.

Thank you. I’ve filled out a questionnaire already - I forgot as it was quite a while ago. I’m having a video consultation so not sure how long my appt will be. Anyone any ideas?

I didn't go through the Newsome clinic, I went through Dr Panay in Harley Street as it's more local to me for blood tests etc. My initial telephone appointment was definitely over 30 minutes, probably nearer to 45. I had a list of things I wanted to talk about and made notes as my consultant answered them. I've since had another telephone consultation to update how my medication was progressing and I'm booked in for blood tests. Once we're happy with the dosage I can apparently have the drugs prescribed by my GP, although the private clinic like to have a follow up appointment once a year to make sure the prescription is still correct. I'm so glad I went privately, my GP only wanted to prescribe Femoston tablets, the progesterone part of which were horrific.

I don't go to either Louise Newson or Nick Panay but another specialist. IME my first appt was around 45 mins and my others (every 6-8 months) are around 30 minutes.
I think it's usual to allow 45 mins for a 1st appt.

Thank you very much for your help. I think anxiety has made this appt a bigger thing in my head - I need it to help

Hello I'm sorry I didn't see the reply / question. My appointment was probably only about 30 minutes but that was sufficient to cover everything including time for me to ask any final questions. It didn't feel rushed, it's just that I'd done my reading / watched the videos so already had a reasonable amount of knowledge and the GP was all for prescribing the HRT and this is being done through the NHS. She was very pleasant and put me at my ease and I felt so much better afterwards. Good luck abs keep us updated :)
