Why are a lot of gynaes so horrible when it comes to womens problems so disheartened

Went to see one today. All he did today was try and push the mirena coil onto me when I really don't want it. I had awful problems with the copper coil and I don't want anything like that again.

He gave me the all clear as I have a benign cyst on my ovary and benign womb lining but scared me shitless as he wants a repeat of my ca125 as it was 51 last june and its high plus full blood count as I'm feeling tired and achy and have dry skin, brain fog and thats cause for concern apparantly

I'm 43 and my periods are becoming irregular, not a huge problem but I feel ugh. He argued and argued and then was rude, also refused to give me any other treatment as I'd refused the coil as a first line treatment and said that I couldn't be suffering that badly if I didn't want the coil. And then said peri menopause does not cause joint pain muscle aches, brain fog, hair loss, dry skin or mood swings. It only causes hot flushes and irregular periods.

I feel like crying to be honest

Sorry you had such a terrible experience.

While hot flushes and irregular periods are very much two of the most common symptoms of perimenopause, there are 38 in total, so the gynae you saw is clearly incorrect.

You need to make a complaint and ask to be referred to another gynae. Unfortunately, it is all pot luck who you get to see and how knowledgable/interested they are.

Consult the NICE guidelines and you can use these in your complaint.

Just to say that the Mirena is quite different from the copper coil, I've got one for perimenopause ( with oestrogen gel) and it's been fantastic.

I empathise with you though, a couple of GPs were very off with me about menopause symptoms and treatment. I felt that I was perceived as whiny. I'm a medic, but was still dismissed. I felt very belittled and frustrated. Flowers to you.

I'm sorry you had this experience. I detest coming into contact with medical professionals for this reason. It makes me anxious and depressed. It must be so depressing because it's hard to get referred in the first place and you build your hopes up you're going to see someone kind and sympathetic. Sorry not to be able to offer you practical advice but solidarity to you x

That’s absolutely unacceptable of him. Here are the NICE guidelines: www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng23/ifp/chapter/About-this-information
