Anxiety

Hi

I started getting bouts of anxiety about 5 years ago when I started the peri menopause. I'm in my early 50s now and sometimes the anxiety seems overwhelming.

I have always worried about things but recently it has been very bad. My GP prescribed me some tablets but they have given me an upset stomach.

The anxiety seems to be worse prior to a HRT bleed. I have been on HRT for about 5 months and my bleeds are all over the place - sometimes once a month and sometimes every 20 days. My GP has said it will take a while for the bleeds to settle.

Have any of you experienced peri menopausal anxiety and does it eventually get better? Thanks

Hi, I also started getting horrendous anxiety a couple of years ago (I'm 48 now). I resisted anti-depressants and tried everything, even counselling. It got to the point where I almost couldn't go to work and I genuinely thought I was gong crazy.I mentioned it to my gynae who prescribed natural progesterone (100mg on days 15-25 of cycle). I've only used it for two cycles so far but the effect has been miraculous.
I feel like my old self again apart from the odd bumpy day. I've always been very sceptical of the effects of hormones on moods and I simply can't believe the difference it has made! I think the balance between eostrogen and progesterone has to be right so it's a delicate thing but I hope you can find what works for you.
If you can afford it, finding a cousellor who specializes in cognitive behavious therapy might be a good idea. Having strategies to deal with the anxiety really helped me.
