Best supplements

I'm looking for recommendations for the best supplements...

I'm almost 49 but have been experiencing the following for some time; plantar fasciitis, knee pain, trigger finger and general joint stiffness. I'm absolutely exhausted after a days work and could literally curl up and sleep as soon as I get home from teaching, when I'm at school of course! I've been to the doctor who had no solution (am going to try again at some point, this time with a female doc who may be more sympathetic 🤔).

I remember my Mum being recommended Primrose Oil in her 50's and have seen the 'WellWoman' stuff in Boots, but don't know where best to put my money, if anywhere!

Any advice or experiences most welcome please!

Hi OP! Can I join you and wait for suggestions? I'm the same (plus on/off insomnia) and would like to know what's working for others.

Evening Primrose Oil is to balance your hormones.
You need to be looking at COD liver oil and glucosamine type things for joints. Let me know if if works because I’m creaky !

I had plantar fasciitis in both feet. Got it from wearing ballet type shoes. The only way I got rid of it was with the laser.
You must wear good, supportive shoes or trainers. Clark’s type shoes.

DinosaurDiana what do you mean by laser for plantar fasciitis?

I had some sort of laser treatment, I believe that it’s also used for breaking down kidney stones ?, it was a couple of years ago so can’t remember.

I started taking beef liver supplements and a good quality Cod liver oil about 6 weeks ago. It's been a game changer regarding fatigue and anxiety.

I take menopace religiously, I'm menopausal but post hysterectomy so unfortunately don't have periods to gauge how far along I am!
They seem to really help with my moods and so I'm guessing they are doing some good, I've also started taking vitamin D too.

Magnesium works for me, reduced my fatigue and joint/muscle pains
Feel calmer too

DramaAlpaca · 21/02/2021 22:49

I take Menopace, a soya/red clover supplement and a high dose of vitamin D. Oh, and a probiotic type thing called Zenflore. I've been taking them for years and now I'm postmenopausal I carry on with them because I'm sure they've made me feel better.

There's quite a bit online about this if you look at some of the more science-based sites or articles by meno drs. EPO is not for menopause, it's usually only used now for cyclical breast pain.
For joint pain, or stiffness, it's usually fish oils that are suggested.

Have you discussed all this joint pain with a dr? Might be worth doing that as sometimes more serious stuff like rheumatoid arthritis can kick off in midlife and it needs proper treatment.

Interesting as I've recently started taking fish oils and glucosamine to help with aching knees/hips from running. I wonder if they help with the elbow and arm aches I get which I suspect are peri.

I'll look into magnesium too although I'm still in the pill so need to check it's compatible.
