Cycles returning after menopause

Hi all. Turning to Mumsnet for advice after Googling failed to help!

I'm 'only' 47 but have been on HRT for several years. I was on Elleste Duet first which really sorted out all my symptoms. When the shortage began, I tried Kliovance, which I didn't get on with so well. So I found Elleste from an online pharmacy and took that again until last summer when they couldn't get it either. My GP put me on Novofem (same ingredients as Elleste Duet). Have now been taking it for five months and I feel absolutely fine.

Except. Last month, I had a period. First one for about 20 months (It would have been two years since my last period in March/April). Very odd and very definitely a period - not just bleeding, all the other symptoms too. Lasted four days. Exactly the same as my periods had always been.

Two weeks ish later I had sore boobs and other symptoms of ovulation (EWCM etc). And then yesterday I had a tiny bit of bleeding - right on cue - and cramping. The bleeding was minimal, I wouldn't even call it spotting, and has now stopped but the cramps are terrible.

Googling just brings up lots of advice about unexplained bleeding after the menopause. And very unhelpful conflicting advice about whether it's one or two years after your last period that you should worry, about whether it's a concern if you're under 50, and so on. I can't find anything about cycles returning.

I wondered if anyone here had experienced similar?

In younger women, periods can return. There's more on this where women have POF ( premature or very early menopause) and for some of them their fertility comes back after a long break.
I guess if you have had all the symptoms of a cycle, it's 'normal'.
