Any ideas of natural ways to manage hot flushes and the anxiety that goes with them? Nutritional tips? Diet?

Following. I’m currently taking omega 6 and 3 (not sure they’ve had any effect) and just started magnesium in the last 2 weeks which may I think had helped with insomnia.

Melassa · 22/02/2021 12:53

I was going to ask the same, so I will bump yours!

MinnieMountain · 23/02/2021 17:53

Magnesium for sleep.
Drinking less alcohol. Anything more than 2 units at a time can disturb my sleep now.
Evening primrose oil for hot flushes.
I met a gym instructor who claimed she got through it on exercise alone but not tried it myself.

MinnieMountain · 24/02/2021 07:05

chickadeeeeeee the Boots tablets I take are 375mg which it says is 100% of the RDA.

chickadeeeeeeeee · 24/02/2021 07:34

Thanks minniemountain have they helped?

MinnieMountain · 24/02/2021 07:52

Yes. I can see the difference when I forget to take them.

chickadeeeeeeeee · 24/02/2021 08:05

Thanks 😊

TheDogsMother · 24/02/2021 08:07

Regular exercise really helps me. Just a 30 minute HIIT workout or weights plus walking.

Emlemily · 24/02/2021 08:09

Following. I'm in surgical menopause after endometrial cancer so no HRT for me. I've heard that sage tablets can help for hot flushes but they have natural oestrogen in them so I can't take them either. Alcohol definitely makes my hot flushes worse. Will give magnesium a go.

Also (magnesium gives me tummy trouble) - Epsom Salts bath soak for 20 m. Magnesium is absorbed through the skin. Honestly helps- has to be 20m though.

chickadeeeeeeeee · 24/02/2021 15:56

Thanks for epsom salts tip, how much do you use?

chickadeeeeeeeee · 24/02/2021 15:57

mistakenagain thanks

MinnieMountain · 24/02/2021 16:36

Everything seems to be reactive @Emlemily Sad
I’m on Tamoxifen for breast cancer.

murbblurb · 24/02/2021 16:42

NHS (who aren't trying to sell you anything) say that RDA for magnesium is 300mg so Boots aren't to be trusted on this. (Remember they also sell diet pills and homeopathic 'remedies') NHS say that under 400mg of magnesium is unlikely to be harmful, that's what the lawyers will have checked.

NHS also say to watch 'natural' hormones as not checked for safety.

remember the name for 'natural' or 'alternative' medicine that works - 'medicine'.

I highly recommend getting divorced and meeting an amazing new dp Grin. All the symptoms seemed to melt away once I was happy. I mentioned it to my gp when she asked if I wanted to pursue hrt (I had been in precovid then moved in with dp, the new dr had been reading my notes) and she said she has had several patients over the the years be similar and she thinks it's more sex!

MistakenAgain · 24/02/2021 18:44

@chickadeeeeeeeee
I use quite a bit. I buy the large bags on amazon (£14?) and put about a cup and a half in. I haven't experimented yet but I think a smaller amount would be effective.

chickadeeeeeeeee · 24/02/2021 19:09

Thanks mistakenagain I will give it a try Wink

MinnieMountain · 24/02/2021 20:09

The RDA for magnesium seems to vary depending on the website. Anyway, it seems to work and I’ve not noticed any side effects.

FourOnTheHill · 10/03/2021 22:34

I’ve also found magnesium helps my sleep.
