Brain fog & poor concentration

My memory is awful. I can't concentrate. My brain feels foggy & thick. I used to have excellent recall & a great memory - now I feel like my brain is on a perpetual go slow. I forget words. I lose things. I walk into rooms & forget what I've gone there for. I'm using oestrogel & just started anti-ds (20mg fluoxetine). Any advice? Tips to manage it? Does it sound familiar? Does it get better? Feeling embarrassed & worried I'm losing my marbles.

I felt better when I cut out carbs and sugar. Sleep has improved so maybe it’s that. I hope someone who knows more comes onto the thread soon and offers some advice.

Thanks @AtlasPine - I do have a very carb heavy diet (blame lockdown!).

I was like this from 34. It all sounds so familiar, generally not being able to think straight. No doctor would listen to me. Had my last dribble of a period at 43, now through menopause at 45 and on hrt. Those 9 years of terrible memory were horrible. I've only been on hrt since October last year, and so far no real improvement on that side of things. But getting extra sleep has helped, I was waking up to 10 times a night for all those years. I'm hoping that in time the sleep issue will help the memory and thinking side of things.

@Tootsey11 - that sounds incredibly difficult & lack of sleep would def be a big factor. Do you take any supplements?

I'm 35 and exp similar but also along with irregular periods, random hot flushes and aura migraines around my period date. W

I've started taking peri menopause supplements from Health and her and they're helping. Only been on them 3 days but I already feel a lot less stabby than usual and more alert.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 08/02/2021 13:29

@MissCrowley - that's interesting! I shall take a look at those supplements!

Oh yes! All down to poor sleep quality despite sleeping 7 to 8h at night but most of it light sleep so doesn't repair the brain.

It goes through stages, sometimes better and then worse for a few weeks.

I've tried everything but one i.portsbt factor seems to be good hydration. I've never been much of a water drinker (or anything else). I seem to sleep better when I do and the brain seems shaper the next day.

No real advice, just some moral support.

Same here. I'm 54 and still not through the menopause, though have definitely been peri-menopausal for some years now. Brain fog, forgetfulness and weird sleeping patterns are my nemesis.

I go into another room, or upstairs, or downstairs, or to the fridge etc. and can't remember what I went for. I can even forget what I had decided to cook for dinner.

I'm just wishing that my sodding menopause would hurry up and happen properly.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 09/02/2021 15:12

It's awful isn't it?

did you speak to your dr about hrt.,rather than anti d? I'm interested as reading recently that a lot of drs prescribe these for perimenopause when hrt would be a better option?

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 09/02/2021 18:57

I'm on oestrogel & anti-ds. Still not touching the sides so will talk to my gp in a couple of weeks.
