Shoulder pain

Hi all, hoping someone can help ease my worry. I turned 48 in October and think I'm going through perimenopause. I'm irritable, sore boobs, erratic sleep and at times feel flushed in the face but no temperature.

Over the last few weeks I have had joint pain, most notably on the top of my right shoulder although sometimes in my knees too.

The pain comes and goes and I'm wondering if this could be a symptom of hormonal changes. I think I should see my GP at any rate but some responses here may help put my mind at ease.

Thanks in advance

[quote Melange99]It is annoying how every symptom can be linked to peri/meno but a poorly shoulder around the time is one of the symptoms. (Plantar Facilitis (bad spelling) is another.) Going to a GP is of course the thing to do, but do some reading up too.

That’s interesting, I certainly had agonisingly sore feet for a few years, thankfully now gone (helped by swapping my Converse addiction to Sketchers). I never had problems with my shoulders when I was younger so I’m sure menopause has a role to play.

I had frozen shoulder twice with menopause. The first time I went to a physio and worked it out with her over a few sessions. The second time I just did the exercises I'd learned from her by myself and it cleared up after a few months.

Have also started taking turmeric, and also cutting down on carbs eases aching joints in general, I found.

After 4 years of persistent mild pain I got Xrayed. They could see signs of wear but not quite qualifying as osteoarthritis. I was offered physiotherapy. It's not got better but not worse, either. Physio said some bog-standard muscle in my back was withered. Swimming may have helped me.

I've spoken to others who considered shoulder joint replacement & all sorts, but learned to manage their shoulder problems. My cousin had massive surgery (she had injury history).

Mine seems very linked to years of heavy burden carrying and I know what makes it worse. Linked to actual use history, nothing hormonal.

I tried to read up to see if there were links to menopause, HRT, shoulder pain, frozen shoulder and although I found a few references to it, I don’t find any conclusive links.
I changed my HRT from pill form to gel last June and started getting shoulder pain and tingling down my arm and fingers the following week, it them developed into a frozen shoulder, it was so painful for several months, I couldn’t do much with my right arm and found it difficult to sleep, it did slowly start to hurt less and I started to do exercises, I am now much better, still can’t bring my arm behind my back or fully extend over my head but so much better than it was.
I just have to put it down to age, possible hormonal change etc, I just hope I don’t get it again as I’ve read it can happen.
I’m still happily taking my HRT and have no complaints about that.
