Hello Ladies-

I am 48 and suffering from what seems like and endless array of new symptoms that seem to pop up almost daily.

I have always suffered from health anxiety - any sort of symptom sends off alarms bells and I go down a rabbit hole of angst. I do not understand why I react this way but it seriously interferes with my quality of life and with raising 4 children under 14, along with being a wife and full time teacher - it takes its toll.

Recently my anxiety has been through the roof due to a host of symptoms. In particular, I have been waking at 4am everyday unable o get back to sleep, periods of insomnia, and more recently I have had an eyelid twitch that has hung around for almost two weeks. Today I have woken up (at 4am again) with what feels like little pops of twitches going off in both my calves and in my thigh. Of course, I am stressing out whether this could be a serious neurological issue and this just fuels my anxiety even further.

This past year has seen my periods become extremely heavy complete with flooding and clotting and I know that this is likely part of perimenopause but do the other symptoms sound connected?

I have just recently had bloodwork taken and awaiting the results next week from my ND.

I am hesitant to see a dr. right now due to the Covid situation.

Any help would be most greatly appreciated.

Pls talk to your gp. Your symptoms most likely point to b12 deficiency due to heavy periods. Eye twitching, general twitching and even anxiety are quite common symptoms. Could also be iron/ folate deficiency but symptoms are more towards b12. Once your b12 levels are adequate the twitching will go away.

Anxiety is a symptom of peri menopause, so unfortunately it’s probably going to be worse for you.
Twitches can be caused by anxiety.
Waking in the night can be anxiety and/or peri.
I had tingling in my hands and arms at night, thought I had MS, turns out I was iron deficient due to heavy periods. I wasn’t offered a coil but it’s something you might consider, to reduce the bleeding.
It’s not much fun I’m afraid !

Hi OP
I'm 47 and in peri. I have terribly heavy periods which led to low iron which caused all sorts of symptoms including low mood and anxiety. Wait for your blood tests for the full picture, but more likely to be a deficiency rather than a neurological problem. I take tranexamic acid to reduce the bleeding, iron infusion for the iron depletion and hrt to improve my well being. It's a work in progress, but I sleep much better since I started the hrt and I'm not anxious anymore and my pmt rage has reduced significantly. I hope you get some answers soon.

Yep, that was my experience of the menopause. Add pins and needles, muscle twitching everywhere including eye lids, balance issues, even my eye sight going down in one eye (and then coming back). Electric current through the body, terrible tinnitus and dreadful insomnia which I never experienced in my life before, including the 4am awareness.

The way I explain it to people is feeling hyper exactly as you do when you come out of a loud, boisterous and exciting rock concert....all the time. I had what I know now were the most dreadful panic attacks out of the blue, with no obvious trigger. Do bad that I fainted a few times.

I too was under a lot of stress at the time and also diagnosed with Vit B12 deficiencies with exacerbated the symptoms.

It's got a lot better since I've been in full menopause. Some weeks I almost feel back to my normal self than it hits again but nothing like it was during the perimenopause.

HRT did nothing for me, actually made it all worse, but I would advise to give it a go, better later than sooner.

Just to add, was referred to ENT and then insisted on head MRI and also cardiologist for tests due to low blood pressure and heart rate. Everything came back normal, all caused by the menopause!

I had very few issues with hot flushes, no vaginal dryness or other symptoms it cause others. For me it's been all nervous system related.

I have HA and am going through peri menopause, it is the worst! When you're already hyper aware of everything your body throws at you, being peri adds a few more... not sure if you're the same but my body can create sensations too but I've come to live by the mantra 'a feeling is not a fact' I was sure that HRT (with all its scary associations) was not right for me but the crippling symptoms are seriously affecting my day to day life. I paid privately to have a remote HRT/menopause consultation and it was a life saver for me, taking the time to really discuss everything with her Anything else I can help with, as a person who understands then please shout Smile

@pinkrabbits39 How are you finding the HRT? I am on the verge of trying it as the anxiety and new debilitating symptoms have me so down! I have a 22 month old baby and a stressful FT job and I feel so overwhelmed!

Hi, the HRT has reduced the anxiety symptoms significantly and I feel like the old me again. I had the patches in combination with some CBT to help and it seems to have done the trick. It was good to know that replacing lost hormones was the problem and not that I'm going mad.

Thanks @dontdisturbmenow

The first 2 paragraphs and I was like "Yes! This is exactly how I am!"
