Has anyone else been described Sertraline to help with the menopause.
I Was was on Evorel Sequi for 8 months but felt really poorly with them so stopped taken them as advised by doctors but within a few weeks the hot flushes, headaches and all the rest of the symptoms that come with going through the menopause come back with a vengeance,
I really didn’t want to go back on HRT so have been described Sertraline and was hoping someone else have tried them and can give me some feedback

I believe they have changed guidelines and anti depressants not for menopause symptoms.

I would suggest you might be better trying different form of hrt. A lot of women find synthetic progesterone causes problems for example, and are prescribed utrogestan.

AD's are not recommended for menopausal issues and may in fact make your anxiety/depression worse. You need to see a menopause specialist if possible.

Yes I have been on it for months having had high anxiety and feeling very depressed and suicidal due to the menopause. I cant take HRT and I can honestly say they have saved my life. My kids noticed that I was happier and calmer and said so. I just feel so much better all round. I no longer wake up with dread and feel flat all day and angry! I really recommend them if you are feeling down and anxious. I only take a half a day but that is great for me!

Crouchendmumoftwo it’s so nice to hear from someone who is actually taking Sertraline and it’s working well for you, I’ve been on it now for 3 weeks and I know it’s much to earlier to say it’s changing my life 🤔 but my headache are not as bad and yes my moods are not so 🤬 I will stick it out for the next 5 weeks and see how I go. Xx
Thank you everyone for your comments much appreciated xx

@Wendy1564 As other posters have said, ADs are now not recommended for menopause and it goes further than that! Menopause expert drs are kicking back at this prescribing as it doesn't work. There has been a huge outcry about ADs being used to medicate women who need estrogen.
You can find many articles from women talking about their experience on the website of menopause dr, Dr Louise Newson (just put ADs into the search box.)

As other posters have mentioned, there are many types of HRT not just one. You may have to try a few to get the best fit. You don't say how you felt other than 'very poorly' and that was possibly because of the type of progesterone. There are 4 types you could try.

ADs aren't the right medication and they also don't give you all the benefits of HRT like bone and heart health. That's why NICE says not to prescribe them :)
