Menopause and cluster headaches

Hello, I'm late fifties and for four years now have taken Femoston 1/10 conti. It has been an excellent fit for me, and I've felt brilliant on it for years. My blood pressure is ok 127/77 average and I'm not overweight. I really try to look after myself. However for the past six months I've had cluster headaches about once or twice a week. I've had my eyes tested in case it was eye strain, and my prescription is ok. Could this be a menopause thing?

I have definitely suffered an increase in migraine linked to the menopause and I know that others do too. I'm not sure how cluster headaches are defined OP?

They are headaches that come out of nowhere, severe and over one eye. May not be cluster headaches at all, but having read the description sounds like them Smile

Interested.. sounds like my migraines. Come on suddenly and always over one eye. I only started getting them when I was peri menopausal. I take Triptan s for them but they do make you feel weird.

Thank you for replying. I'm a bit paranoid about it at the moment. I've always had headaches but they were headaches that went with two paracetamol. But these only respond to codeine or migraleve and I often have to go to bed to sleep them off.

No problem. Mine won't go with anything at all from over the counter and can last for up to 3 days. Have you considered seeing the GP as I'm sure they would prescribe something better for you. It seems to be a common menopausal side effect sadly 😟

Cluster headaches are so severe they usually need hospital admission to administer treatment.

Side eye locked migraines does not yet have a medical name - it's hellish but different (I'm diagnosed with this an saw a neurologist for many yes).

Please ignore typos.

Would highly recommend getting a neurology referral as if you have sudden onset severe migraines a brain scan is warranted.

Just spotted this thread now as I have been searching for someone else who experiences these headaches.

I reckon I've been in peri for a couple of years now. My cycle was always very erratic but the past two years it's a period every 18 days, no exceptions. Duration is getting shorter too. Also brain fog, RAAAGGGEE, flipping anxiety, sweats (not too bad though).

My worst symptom by far, is the headaches. I've been getting them every time I have a period, and sometimes when ovulating since last May. I've been keeping a calendar.

It starts with a dull pain behind my eyes that moves to behind one eye, the right usually. It ends up as a sharp pain in my temple and behind my eye. It's dire. Often sends me to bed. I often feel a bit sick with it. It's affecting my life. The only thing that takes the edge off it is Solpadeine Max, but it only takes the edge off.

It's really getting me down. I hope you're ok op.
