First set of blood results in

I'm 39 and have had 6 months of periods that have lasted a day. Today I got results of a blood test i had. Cholesterol is high, most hormones are normal except oestrogen which should be between 72-529 and mine is 740.
I've to go back in three months for more bloods. Is there anything I can get to help in the meantime? I'm having hot flushes, hot night flushes (not sweats) heartburn, anxiety, brain fug, absolute exhaustion, nausea etc.

Don't know if anything but it's horrible isn't it Thanks

@MyMistakeToMake I think you should be pressing for a diagnosis of premature or early menopause and not necessarily waiting for more blood tests. NICE says that symptoms alone are enough although they do also say that in women under 45 blood tests can be done to show other illnesses. The blood tests are usually done on 2 consecutive months, not waiting for 3 months, and they need to be done between days 2 to 5 of a cycle (so during the bleeding stage.)

You've quoted your estrogen level which is high, but they ought to be testing your FSH levels - was that done? That is a better indication as it shows how hard your ovaries are working to push out eggs- or maybe that was the test they did?

@JinglingHellsBells I've named changed but I'm the op.
I emailed back to check the oestrogen thing and it was clarified that that's what it was. I can't remember what was on the bloods sheet but she said that they were testing hormones etc and that they had all been normal? I wonder if I email back they will give me all the results?
Maybe if the other stuff was normal that's why they are waiting for the three months?

It really is. :( I was hoping for some sort of fix pretty quickly but I feel like I'm going to have to push for it. (Name changed!)

Any dr should know that they test on 2 consecutive months. They should also know that in peri menopause, bloods can show normal- that's why NICE says don't do the tests in women age 45. In younger women there may be underlying reasons for peri symptoms nothing to do with meno itself.
The test is to use HRT. If it works then you needed it.
I'd ask for a referral to a meno specialist TBH or if you can afford it, pay for an appt yourself, privately.

Thank you. I'm not very good at sticking up for myself and I've no knowledge of this at all. Is there a good website I can do some reading up on that you know of?

Ok I'm just looking at the nice guidelines. Taking in what I can with a fuzzy head isn't easy. I can't email the doctors today but I will on Monday and ask for some clarity on fsh etc. I'm wondering if it's worth asking for a full breakdown of my results (even though I don't know what I'm looking at?)

And I'm just reading through this now which clearly states doing bloods 4-6 weeks after the first set. I feel like this is going to be a battle. Angry

Hi there

Websites The Daisy Network- charity led by specialists for women with early menopause.

Dr Louise Newson's website- use the search box for anything on early menopause etc.

If you can afford a private appt with a specialist you can probably get all of this sorted within a couple of weeks but it will cost you around £250- depends on your circs.

I emailed the doctors on Monday asking if they had done the FSH levels. I got a reply saying yes they had.
So if all my other levels are normal except oestrogen which is high. My main symptom is one day periods for 7 months along with hot flushes, insomnia, bone crushing tiredness, mild depression symptoms, brain fog. What do I do now?
