Tinnitus and other misery

Is anyone else suffering this bad from peri symptoms? I am 46 and driven nuts / to distraction by:
-Tinnitus (pulsatile on the left and continuous on the right). Particularly troubling at night but also making it difficult to concentrate on work. Ongoing since I turned 45.
-Palpitations at night waking up feeling like I can't breathe
-Inner shaking to varying degrees night and day
-Night sweats
-Sometimes spaced out feeling in my head, adding to the tinnitus distraction

I could go on but these are the worst. No day time hot flashes but plenty of 'adrenaline' rushes and inner shaking. Not on HRT due to history. How long does this awfulness last? Do these symptoms go away eventually? Is anyone experiencing this at this 'young' age?

Yep, all these. Didn't associated it to the perimenopause at first.

It all got better when I went into full menopause. still there but not as bad and also an element of getting used to it after 4 years.

I'm 42 and this has been me this year. Plus migraines and blurry vision that lasts days.

Thanks for the replies. These symptoms are so bizarre an intense that it is hard not to think one is falling apart..

@dontdisturbmenow do you think it is more a case of things getting better or more about getting used to living with this? Which symptoms do you still have that are ongoing after full menopause and which would you say have completely disappeared? Obviously every case is different, but I'm just trying to get a sense of what to expect.

Definitely things getting better. The one bit I got more used to is the tinnitus but it's likely not as intense.

I remember it waking up a few times at night because it was so bad.

dontdisturbmenow · 27/11/2020 12:30

Tinnitus still there but not bothersome most of the time.

Night sweats not bad at all, just about sweaty occasionally early in the mornings.

Palpitations almost completely gone as is pins and needles, shaking and jerking.

I also suffered a lot from lightheadedness and dizziness. That's also almost gone although still hitting me at times.

What remains is poor sleep, waking up feeling hangover and constant fatigue and mental.fog but I think that's the outcome of poor sleep.

I have the same symptoms you have all mentioned and they are so hard to deal with. At times I can rationalise them as being part of the peri menopause but other times I am convinced there must be something terminally wrong with me ☹️.
The worst ones for me are palpitations and dizziness along with nausea. Some times they go away and I am back to my old self and then, bam they are back!

Sorry to read this. I've had most of these symptoms though things do seem to be easing at the moment.

However the tinnitus I had for weeks and put down to meno, turned out recently to be blocked ears. It might be worth getting those checked just in case. I still have it but it's so much less intrusive.

What has helped me is sticking to a healthy diet, and cutting out all alcohol apart from in cooking.

I know, but it has massively improved things for me. Palpitations almost gone, and night waking much improved - though there are still the frequent loo trips unfortunately.

I keep a window open at night and also invested in a top quality fan.

Thanks for the replies.

@HelloDaisy can fully empathise. How can hormones cause such chaos? It is hard to to feel like there must be more to it.

@Words glad to hear things are easing. Do you think things are easing because you are coming to the end of perimenopause/in full menopause? Hard to know sometimes whether easing is temporary..

I don’t know know to be honest. I thought I was entirely menopausal with over 12 months without a period, but then got a surprise in August.

I don’t think meno itself necessarily eases the symptoms. They can go on for years, unfortunately.

But they have been greatly eased by the lifestyle things I mentioned.

Sympathies x

dontdisturbmenow · 30/11/2020 18:20

Grinch, if you've gone 12 months without a period and then had a bleed, you should get it checked out.

Most liny absolutely fine but any bleeding after the menopause (12 months) should be checked.

Hi all, This may now be classed as a Zombie thread but I won’t know until I add my comment.

I started with Tinnitus in my left ear approximately 3 weeks ago. It’s a constant high pitched whining tone.
After doing lots of ‘Googling’ I read it could be linked to the Menopause. I had my last period in July last year, so six months ago.

I’m wanting to know if the OP and other contributors to this post have had any success in it leaving them? and what, if anything you can do, or which supplements to take to ease it. It’s terrible. TIA.

isaxx · 26/02/2024 21:47

@mummytippy I'm afraid not. Just have had to get used to living with tinnitus. Not fun.
