Best type of duvet for night sweats?

stirling · 09/11/2020 21:56

My synthetic 7.5 tog "winter" duvet that I took out a few weeks ago when it was cold is just too warm!
Would a feather duvet regulate body temp better?
I'm not having proper flushes but I do get intermittently hot throughout the night.

Thank you

Not the dunelm wool. Also roasting.

ShreksAuntie · 09/11/2020 22:11

I’ve got a feather duvet. It’s not helping.

Happyface120 · 09/11/2020 22:13

Wool duvet 100%. Warm and heavy on cold nights, but breathable. I like Baavet, they do a lightweight one

inisfree · 09/11/2020 22:17

I got a wool duvet and it's helped me tolerate the night sweats.

Stonecrop · 09/11/2020 22:17

Maybe go back to summer duvet with a blanket/bedspread that you can throw off when overheating?

Allycat · 09/11/2020 23:03

I've got a Baavet as well. It's a game changer, honestly. I went for the medium weight and it's perfect!

JoeBidenIsGreat · 09/11/2020 23:09

why have a duvet at all, why not use just a sheet or a thin blanket?
I overheat easily or stay stubbornly cold and can be both in the same hour. Always have been like that, not menop related. So I am used to lots of different thickness layers as essential options.

@Stonecrop

Maybe go back to summer duvet with a blanket/bedspread that you can throw off when overheating?
Yes. I never liked just duvets anyway, much prefer sheets, a blanket and bedspread and then a light single duvet as extra. Layers are definitely a good idea.

Morning and thanks everyone. Stonecrop that's what I did last night, dug out the summer duvet, heavy blanket on top initially. Even with kicking it off and exposing my feet I was still hot.
I'll look up baavet, never heard of it. Either that or try bedsheet which is what I do in the summer!

Wool duvet did nothing here other than cost me £159!

snygghygge · 13/11/2020 16:06

I have a silk duvet and it's been a complete game changer for me!

DramaAlpaca · 13/11/2020 16:09

I bought a 2.5 tog duvet from Ikea. It's perfect for me. I layer up if I need to with a couple of light blankets on top.

Gone are the days when I could happily snuggle up under a 13.5 tog duvet, sadly.

Willdoitlater · 13/11/2020 16:13

Single duvet. Conventional lengthwise when cool. Turn so it's across middle of body with top and feet exposed when hot.

heidbuttsupper · 13/11/2020 16:20

4.5 tog M&S Comfotably Cool. I also got the bedding range. It's lovely.

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 13/11/2020 16:51

Silk is brilliant but spendy

alpinia · 13/11/2020 16:53

A Baavet solved this for me, plus I really like how it feels too. Their bargain bin ones are very reasonable priced.

stirling · 13/11/2020 21:56

I also dug out the ikea 2.5 one last night, helped. I too miss the days of snuggling under my winter duvet.
Love the single vertical /horizontal suggestion! Made me smile.
Now curious about silk!

My Woolroom duvet is amazing for night sweats.

Tyzz · 14/11/2020 17:49

Single duvets on our bed. I have a 1tog wool duvet. Sheet under duvet and blanket over for colder nights. DH has a 15tog on his side.

OllysArmy · 14/11/2020 18:02

Another vote for silk here, I have a sheet, a double summer weight duvet and a king winter weight. I need all to cope!
Sheet only is mainly in the warmer months
The lightweight would be enough on its own but sometimes I get cold and so can't fall asleep, so then I use the winter one.
DH can't cope and sleeps in his own bed with a really thick duvet

SomelikeitHoth · 17/11/2020 23:04

We use a 4.5 tog in winter. Personally anything more is too warm. And I've been like that since being a teenager !

HelloDaisy · 23/11/2020 09:19

I bought a wool duvet from John Lewis and am really pleased with it. I feel the cold, apart from night sweats, but dh has arthritis so gets hot a night and since having the wool duvet we have both slept really well every night. It seems to adjust to our body temperatures whatever the air temperature. Perfect!
