How long did you / should I put up with symptoms?

Hi, I've been following posts on this page for a while as I suspected I am in perimenopause.

I'm 46, no periods as I have a mirena coil, and I've had a few symptoms over the last couple of months but things seem to have ramped up a lot. I'm tearful, snappy, anxious, have very sore breasts with painful nipples, am sleeping badly, and have aches and pains. For the last 2 weeks I've had what I thought was a virus, been getting nauseous and dizzy in the morning, and feel sick after eating. I've looked into this and seems it can be a symptom. Before anyone asks, definitely not pregnant!

I'm wondering if the GP will think it's too soon to prescribe HRT. Did you track your symptoms for a few months before taking the evidence to your doctor? Did you wish you'd gone straight away? Just not sure I'll be taken seriously....

You don't need put up at all.

Go and seek help.

It's up to you to make sure you are taken seriously. Be assertive and say your symptoms are affecting your quality of life and you wish to try HRT.

I started getting symptoms in September and I collected my HRT prescription today so not long!

I’m definitely in peri as I had bloods done in June when it turned out I had an ovarian cyst and looking back I think symptoms have been slowly ramping up for a while. In my desperation one night at 3am I booked an appointment with a private menopause doctor via Nuffield and spoke to her last night. I’ll be starting as soon as my period starts. I’m a little apprehensive but excited too to see what the effects will be.

Definitely not too early for HRT, I've been on it since I was 43. There is no reason to suffer with that shit.

Thanks everyone, I think I've just read so many women's experiences where they weren't taken seriously that it's made me wary. But as you say, we shouldn't have to suffer with this shit, so I will give them a ring and be assertive.

And good luck @openupmyeagereyes I hope HRT really helps you!

Thanks FurryTurnipHead, I hope you can get them to listen to you.

This current cycle (I’m on day 30) has not been nearly as bad but I’ve still had aches, night waking and was quite tearful early in the cycle too. Last month I had awful anxiety, palpitations and disturbed sleep. Not fun at all.

I think if u feel out of sorts go and have a chat with G.p !
I have been backwards and forwards chatting to drs about various things and everything coming back ok so deffo nothing sinister it’s only when I was referred to rhumatology for bad joint pain that he actually asked me about my cycle ect ect soooo I looked into it and sure enough everything pointed to peri menopause! Anyways had a chat with G.p he sent me for various blood tests and when I rang them to chase he said everything was negative and I firmly said well I’m still having symptoms 🤷‍♀️So after offering me the pill Contraception I declined as it doesn’t suit then he offered me antidepressants again I said no Thankyou and he then offered HRT patches I applied one Friday and within a few days I’m feeling more like myself !
Anyway be firm and it’s never to soon xx
