Coming off HRT patches horrendous cramps

dfghj · 01/11/2020 11:51

I'm tapering my use of HRT patches as I've been on it for 5 years. Everol Sequi cut down from eight patches per month to two.
It's hit me so hard! Flushes back with a vengeance but more worried by period like cramps for 4 weeks... Also lower back pain.
Of course Dr Google has me at deaths door!
Anyone else found withdrawing from HRT causing cramps?

Have you been told to stop or is it your choice? (There is no time limit on hrt now.)

I think you are reducing too fast.

The drs say do it over 3-6 months.

So it's best to reduce the patches really slowly, like one less a week or whatever you can manage.

You have gone from 8 in a month to 2 which is reducing by 75% .

So you should really be going from 8, to 7, to 6, to 4 etc .

Hi, I should have mentioned I've been tapering for a while, but it's this latest reduction from 3/4per month to 2 which has brought it on.

Why are you stopping HRT?

Aquamarine1029 · 01/11/2020 14:11

I don't understand why you're stopping HRT.

JinglingHellsBells · 02/11/2020 08:32

Just a thought @dfghj ...as you are using sequential HRT, how is this affecting the monthly bleed? The cramps could be indicating that there is a bleed about to occur (or not?) How has the bleeding pattern worked while you are reducing?

As @Aquamarine1029 asked, what is the reason for stopping ?

If it's your choice as you are worried over risks, that's your choice of course.

If you have been advised to stop that's incorrect. The 2-5 year limit is outdated and was changed at least 5 years ago with the new NICE guidance.

You can use hrt for life.

If your flushes etc don't settle down, would you consider starting it again?
