Mini pill for perimenopause ? anyone with experience

I have just been prescribed the mini pill for perimenopause symptoms, namely horrific low mood, depression and intense anxiety 1-2 weeks before periods which are irregular and heavier now, night sweats, hot flushes etc etc. I am fairly young at 39 for this but my mum was the same age and started HRT when she was 40 so fairly certain this is the cause and the GP agreed with me.

Anyone with any experience please? I have read so many conflicting reports!

I'm on the mini pill. Scared to come off it as it stopped my horrendous flooding which would be disastrous in a customer service role. I still get hot flushes, but reduced to first thing in the morning & a few at night. My mood seems pretty even on it too. The downside is that it makes me very bloated.

That's interesting and thank you for replying! I've been taking it for ten days now so not sure it's long enough to see any effects but my mood seems to have improved.

Hi OP, I took it 2 years ago for peri pmt and heavy periods. It was great for the periods but it made me feel very depressed. I hope it helps you.

Try Menopace tablets too. They’re just multivitamins but in a menopausal-friendly formula. They REALLY stop my menopausal rage! I just take the £4ish ones. Honestly, they keep me sane.

I get Tesco's own version of Menopace. Usually on 3 for 2 offers. Have exactly the same ingredients as the branded ones. As Macbook said, definitely help the emotions Confused

I was prescribed the mini pill recently, I'm not peri, I needed it for contraception (I'm 42, new relationship) but I bled continuously on it. I didn't like it at all.

Thanks all, one thing I have noticed is the night sweats have got worse Confused had to change the sheets at 3am this morning. No bleeding which is a good sign as the GP did warn about that. The thing that confuses me is that when I started reading about hrt and peri menopause, I thought it was the reduction in oestrogen that was the cause of symptoms rather than progesterone. I admit I'm not hugely knowledgeable about hormones though......

And I'll definitely try the Tesco's brand of Menopace, I've just run out of multivitamins so need some more.

Now random bleeding has started and my mood has gone down the toilet. Feeling extra pissed off with the world today. Had no night sweats for the last two nights though. No. Idea. What's. Going. On.

I've been on the minipill for 5 years- it's has been a real success for me, completely stopping my periods which were very painful.
My GP is now insisting I come off the minipill. She thinks I'm probably menopausal- based on my age (53) and one blood test- but I think the blood test results are unreliable BECAUSE I'm on the minipill.
I'm really reluctant to come off it because, apart from poor sleep and sagging skin, I have no other menopause symptoms whatsoever.
GP will only give me a prescription for 3 months pills. She argued with me on the phone- and, well, you can't force your GP to prescribe... I'm thinking about my next step. GP might be right but i'm terrified to come off the minipill if it's not entirely necessary, as I am doing so well on it compared to the menopause horror stories you hear so often.
