Period after one year and one week!

Really freaked out this morning should not have googled!! One year ago I had an injection (Prostap) for heavy period bleeding which stopped bleeding for 3 months then I have had 9 months without periods. This is what my Gynae hoped would happen as I am 53. So one year without bleeding. Last week I had a headache, backache, anxiety like PMT and yesterday started a period. Will get checked with GP but wondering if 3 months on Prostap is included in one year ???

You can't include a drug which accelerates loss of cycles as part of menopause. You will only count from when the effects have worn off and are out of your system.

Thank you JinglingHellsBells I did wonder - difficult to know when to start from then?

Have you posted the same thing on another forum and got similar replies- that when your periods are stopped by medication the 12 month rule does not apply? I suspect your GP is another one who doesn't understand menopause too well.

JinglingHellsBells thank you for your replies can I ask were you told this by a clinician? or do you know from personal experience may i ask?

To be honest my GP was very unsure she just said she had to follow guidelines laid out. Other forums have just said they were sent for post menopausal bleeding but I have not met anyone with a familiar story of periods stopped by medication no.

Two things

I have a friend who was given the injections to shrink a fibroid before surgery. It's a common thing to postpone periods by inducing an ^artificial' menopause for various conditions.

But when the drugs wear off, surely your own hormones will kick in again? Prostap doesn't cause permanent menopause.

I really can't understand your GP here. it's obvious! if women use certain BC pills or have Mirena, they can stop their periods. So when they drugs are not used any more, normal hormonal levels kick in and cycles can start. No one would count the number of months or even years with no periods as 'post menopause' when it's drug-induced.

You have only had 9 months without a period- not 12.

Personally, I'd contact your GP and discuss this again as it may be wasting your time and appts other people could have by going for a scan.

JinglingHellsBells I do agree it is obvious - however, as I work at the hospital they contacted me with a cancellation this afternoon and I had the scan. Ovaries were fine, endometrial lining 4.4mm Sonographer said it was slightly over 4mm for a Post Menopausal woman and my GP would have to take a look at the result and see how normal it was for me. Is it normal and even if it is I'm not post menopausal?
