When to see a GP RE: perimenopause

Just that really, I am perimenopausal, probably have been for a few years really but have had no periods since January although I sometimes get the symptoms of a period.
I am often just exhausted, with aching joints and quick to anger. Total loss of sex drive.

I have found very little content online about what to do next, all very obvious stuff, so how do you know if you need HRT? I haven’t been to my GP (who I don’t like as she is very dismissive) and the current situation is not making me want to go in unless I’m desperate.

I just don’t know if I should look into taking it or just carry on as I am?

I had blood tests back in July and I've just been told that I'm going through the perimenopause. I'm still having periods but they hurt like hell and my boobs have become so sore! Plus, I'm exhausted, suffering from aches and pains and having real trouble sleeping. My doctor tried to encourage me to go on HRT. She said I should have a read about it on the menopause matters website and then come back to her when I've made up my mind. She was very pro HRT. I can't make up my mind.

Can you get a phone consultation with your GP? It would be good for you to talk it through.

Ooh, thank you, i will look at that site-i have missed that one. Maybe re the phone consultation but my GP is possibly the last person id be comfortable talking to even through shes probably gone through
it herself.

The only bonus for me is no periods, they were always painful, id possibly be more inclined if they had worsened like yours have though-they are so draining on there own.

@Claphands There is masses online but looks as of you have not found it.

An excellent site is that of Dr Louise Newson- her website is My Menopause Dr - and it's a million times better than Menopause Matters website.

She also has a free app- Balance- you can get.

Claphands · 15/10/2020 15:48

Thanks @jingling i have found stuff online but it all seems to be basic stuff and how to identify whether you ate perimenopausal or not, im looking for advice on specifically how you know whether HRT is the right thing or not so ill definitely take a look at that.

I had a video GP appointment yesterday as I was wondering the same thing. GP said at 48 it was an early for me to have menopausal symptoms and too early to start HRT. This is different to the advice on the Louise Newson website and the NICE guidelines. He told me get some black cohosh. I'm getting a second opinion.
