Constant hot flushes

Miathecat · 12/10/2020 21:20

Have had very minor symptoms for about 18 months, most notably no period for about 7 months, period started again for a couple of months then missed one again. Have started having the worst constant hot flushes all through the day and night, waking me up about 5 times a night drenched, been taking herbal remedy but what’s next? Can’t have oestrogen due to focal migraine (or at least I was told that in my twenties re pill and they mentioned I could never take hot either) sorry it’s so long

Agh. I feel for you. The hot flushes and night sweats are such a pain. The only thing I found helpful was to drink a glass of water every time to make sure I was replacing hydration. I also changed my bed linen every other day.

I didn't try any supplements but I'm sure someone will be along in a minute with more helpful info.

Wool duvet really helped me. It regulates so you don’t get that cold drenched feeling.

You might be ok with gel hrt. www.nationalmigrainecentre.org.uk/migraine-and-headaches/migraine-and-headache-factsheets/migraine-menopause-and-hrt/

A friend who couldn’t take hrt. Got prescription something else that really helped hot flushes.she also swears by strong sage tablets.

You might want to check this out again- it's 20 years old that 'advice'.

The Migraine Trust has a section on HRT and it says women can use it.

HRT is different to the Pill- it's a lower dose and a totally different product.

Here we are this is the link you need- HRT is ok. @Miathecat

I was on Holland and Barratts website the other day looking for something else but found loads of things to help with this. Loads of reviews on there seemed to rate the effects highly, but the voice impressed me, I imagine if you didn't get on with one thing you could try another, I recall sage was one red clover another... Sorry can't recommend personally but it's worth a dig round their website I reckon. I'll be heading that way when it's his me I think, I'm not far off this point.

Choice not voice! 😆

Hi Op

I feel for you I'm exactly the same!

I go months without a period the I have one then again etc

I must admit I dnt suffer bad with hot flushes but I do take a supplement called
Soya isoflavones I swear by these.
A lady I worked with ages ago told me about these
She couldn't take hrt as she had medical problems
She said they changed her life as she was having bad sweats most of day and night
Give them ago I hope they help

Riv12345 · 12/10/2020 22:10

Just noticed your username 😂😂
I've got a cat called Mia

landoflostcontent · 12/10/2020 22:15

I was prescribed Oxybutinyn (not sure about spelling Smile ) and it was like turning off a tap. Unfortunately wasn't able to continue as it clashed with another health problem and treatment but it might be suitable for you

Miathecat · 13/10/2020 08:34

Thank you all so much, a couple of new things to try. Also noticed my local area has an nhs menopause clinic might try and get a referral so I can investigate possible hrt as pp said the advice is probably well out of date now

Riv12345 my Mia cat sadly passed away last year but at the ripe old age of 18, we’re currently on the lookout for two kittens!

I tried every supplement going-black cohosh and sage worked the best for me but I still felt like rubbish so went to GP-I also get migraines but they were more than happy to prescribe HRT. Honestly, it is a game changer! Haven’t had a single flush since!

JinglingHellsBells · 13/10/2020 09:08

so I can investigate possible hrt as pp said the advice is probably well out of date now

Modern hrt is not the same as the Pill. The Pill is a higher dose and it's a synthetic form of estrogen.

Modern HRT as a patch or gel is the same estrogen as our own and it'a a lower dose compared to what we have when fertile.

Thank you, I think it was because the type of migraine I have has the same symptoms as a stroke (numbness in arm, loss of speech, using wrong words and not being able to send signals to hand, loss of sight etc) but the link you gave to migraine trust says there is not thought to be a threat of stroke so things definitely have moved on, I’ll get in touch with doc and have ordered sage tablets will report back with progress
Thanks again
