Too late for mirena?

I'm 50 (tomorrow!) and I've very heavy periods.

Gynaecologist has suggested mirena but I'm wondering there any point if my periods are going to stop anyway because of menopause?

They're still regular at the minute.

Hello, hope u had a happy birthday yesterday. The frustrating thing with peri-meno is there is no definite way to know how long you'll be in this phase until your periods stop. If your periods have become very heavy, along with all the difficulties that can cause, it may well be worth considering a Mirena coil.

... I was going to add, that if your periods are still regular, you could still have quite a few years to go. 52 here and still having fairly regular periods, but my Mirena makes them just a couple of days of light spotting now and I have oestrogen gel & testosterone gel to manage some of the other symptoms

I got mine at 50 - best thing EVER!!! Changed my life. Go for it.

You could still have many more years of regular periods plus intermittent periods. I've been on Mirena for over two years now with no bleeding at all.

I got one at 50 and it’s sorted my heavy bleeds out. No periods now at all. Had it a year.
You could still keep having periods for quite a while. I’d recommend. I’m hoping to go through menopause for the time that the mirena is in, blissfully unaware Smile. Perhaps I’m deluded but I can hope!

I got mine at 46. It stopped my periods completely.

When I got it taken out at 54 my periods didn't come back, so I'd gone through the menopause and come out the other side with it in.

It's well worth it in my opinion.

Thanks everyone! That's really helpful.

Think I'll go for it.

I’m in the same situation, was 50 this year and having awful heavy periods with only 3 weeks in between. Just worried if it doesn’t suit me I won’t get it taken out easily but so sick of having awful periods all the time so might give it a go.

Well I tried to get this today but it was so painful they had to stop. I've been offered it under sedation.
