Possible very early menopause?

Hi all.

I'm just after a bit of advice really before I go to the GP.

I'm 33 (very nearly 34) and for the last year to 18 months I've noticed a change in my periods. I used to be 32 days regular as clockwork. Now they come as frequently as 23 days or as infrequently as 52 days. I've become increasingly heavy and can leak through a super plus tampon in an hour on my first proper day of bleeding, have to get up at night to change my protection and the cramps are horrific as are the hormonal headaches that come with it. In the last month or so I've really suffered with insomnia and I've read this can happen too.

I recently had blood tests for thyroid, diabetes, anaemia etc (due to another thing I was experiencing) and they were fine so know it's not being caused by that. My mum went through the menopause by 38 and her mum was 41 so early menopause does happen in the family.

Would it be worth seeing my doctor or do they not bother with this kind of thing given the situation at the moment?

Thanks

You need to ask your GP to refer you to a meno gynaecologist who can run more blood tests.

Do you have children now or want children?

If so, the sooner you see a dr the better.

Read the website of the Daisy Network- charity for women with premature meno

@JinglingHellsBells I have 2 children and have definitely completed my family so that side of things isn't a concern.

I was more worried would there be any health implications for me if this is the start of the menopause? Would the doctor want to know / carry out tests or is it something they would be happy for me to deal with on my own?

Thanks

It's all on the Daisy website- in more detail than i can do here :)

You would be prescribed HRT- that's the treatment- to age 51 at least.
