Periods stopped a year ago. I can't fall asleep. I can't stay asleep. I wake up at 4 and 5am whatever time I went to bed. I can't nap. It's driving me crazy as I've always needed a lot of sleep to function. Anyone else struggling? What can I do, I don't want to become addicted to sleeping pills like my mum for the last 30 years of her life...

@Techway do you prefer Phenergan to Piriteze?

You could try private acupuncture if you can afford about £50 a session.

It’s very good for female reproductive things from helping couples conceive to removing menopausal symptoms without the use of medicines for those who don’t want to take anything.

Apparently it’s about to be put on the NICE guidelines (but I don’t know what conditions for).

I go every four weeks and it’s really made a difference to a lot of things my GP either couldnt help with or wanted to prescribe heavy duty medicine for.

The day I run I am so full of adrenaline at night that my sleep just gets worse
This is exactly my problem. I feel.line my body is flooded with adrenaline. Mind racing, body fidgety and that constant tinnitus. I feel wired up all the time.

Research has shown that a drug called Clonidine can help some women with night sweat. I noted that this a drug also prescribed to children suffering from ADHD. It did make me wonder if it might help with 'calming the brain down' so am planning to ask my GP to prescribe to see what it does.b

I heard that our natural steroids peak at 4am so this is why a lot of people wake up around them. I don't know if I can make that information useful, though.

Does HRT help if you have all your adult life tended to wake up around 3am?

ladytramp · 10/10/2020 12:26

@dontdisturbmenow I read about Clonidine as another type of HRT ot a substitute for it but it wasn't free from some of the side effects of HRT. Can't really look it up right now but it's all on internet.

Another one saved by HRT. I honestly thought I'd lose my mind. 3 hours was a 'good' night. HRT cured it in about 2 days. I was on the bio-identical patches but they became very hard to find, so now I'm on normal tablets.

dontdisturbmenow · 10/10/2020 14:33

@ladytramp, one of the main side effect is a reduction of blood pressure which would be a problem as mine is already very low, but it's the same with Amitriptyline and it hasnt had the effect in me, so it is worth trying. After that, I've exhausted everything!

I get this almost every night and it never stopped when I was on HRT. Also blotchy sore skin on my face, really sore and shooting pains in both breasts, mood swings, etc. I was only on patches for just over a month and then when I lost one I got out of sync and decided I would just not bother with them. I feel no different for not having them. But maybe I wasn't on them for long enough. What really decided me was the shooting pain in my breasts. I decided it wasn't worth the risk as DM had breast cancer and passed away 4 years ago.

How long until Estrogel works? I have been on 2 pumps since July, and my doctor increased to 3 pumps a week ago.

But my sleep pattern is still: fall asleep, wake up, stay awake ... doze off and then wake up again and stay awake. I'm exhausted every day.

How long should I give the 3 pumps until I request to go up to 4 pumps?
Thanks all!

ChocolateTruffleCake · 22/10/2020 18:49

Hi!
May I ask what kind of HRT you are using? I am currently using 3 pumps of Estrogel/200 mg Progesterone, and my sleep is awful. I fall asleep easily but cannot stay asleep. I think I'm averaging 3 hours a night.
I have an appt with my doctor next week to inquire about increasing to 4 pumps.
